Matata Fire Brigade news
A total of six callouts this last month starting on the 28th of May with a medical callout to an 87 year old who had fallen and hit her head. The next callout was on the 31st of May at 21:15 hrs and saw our First Reponse van turn out to a 20 yr old male with chest pains. Having taken all the patients vital signs, we were able to reassure him until the ambulance arrived.
On the 3rd of June our first response medical van was called out by the police to assist at an altercation that had resulted in two people receiving badly bleeding wounds. On arrival our crew made sure they had protection gloves and glasses on and were able to apply pressure bandages to reduce the bleeding. They then assisted ambulance staff when they arrived.
The 12th of June saw our First Response crew called to a 20 yr old Female who had fallen down some stairs and dislocated her elbow. After checking the patient for other injuries, they were able to make her more comfortable until the Ambulance arrived.
A car verses truck crash on the corner of Pakeha and Mair St was the reason for the next callout for the First Response van. The patient who was involved had hit her head and so we were able to ascertain that there were no injuries to head and neck. It was decided that it was safe for the Ambulance to turn back.
The last callout before writing this was at 05:22 on the morning of the 21st of June to a 4x4 vehicle that had drifted off the road into a ditch at Awakoponga. Both the Fire Appliance and The First Response van responded to find all occupants out and uninjured.
Last week Kevin completed a breathing apparatus course in Rotorua giving us another fully trained up crew person able to enter burning buildings. Over the next three weeks Eru, Tehei and Trevor will all do a 7-day course to attain the required level to join Kevin.
