REQUIRED MATERIALS
Financial Accounting by Williams, Haka, Bettner, and Carcello 13th edition, McGraw-Hill Irwin, Inc. 2008. ISBN: 978-0-07-352681-2
Each student is required to have a basic calculator. Cell phones cannot be used in place of the basic calculator.

COURSE OBJECTIVE
To introduce students to the accounting process; the basic financial statements, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Statement of Retained Earnings, Statement of Cash Flows; the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and how the financial statements are used.
GRADE REQUIREMENTS FOR COURSE
Exam One 260 points Grades: 900-1000 = A
Exams Two and Three 550 points 800- 899 = B
Comprehensive Problem 60 points 700- 799 = C
Take Home Quizzes 60 points 600- 699 = D
Annual Report Project 50 points Below 600 = F
Class Participation 20 points
Total 1,000 points
EXAMINATIONS
The date of the each exam is indicated on the attached assignment sheet; the Final Exam will be scheduled by SRC. If a student misses an interim exam, the weight and content of the missed exam will be automatically added to the Final Exam. Exams will test both problem-solving abilities and knowledge of theory and concepts. The final exam is not comprehensive; it will only test material on which you have not yet been tested. Exams must be completed with the scheduled time unless the student is registered with Disability Services.
COMPREHENSIVE PROBLEM
Each student will be required to complete a comprehensive problem on the Accounting cycle. Due dates are noted on the syllabus. No late papers will be accepted.
ANNUAL REPORT PROJECT
The annual report project will be covered in a separate document.
TAKE HOME QUIZZES
Each student will be required to complete 2 take home quizzes each worth 30 points. Quizzes are due on dates indicated on this syllabus. No late papers will be accepted.
CLASS PARTICIPATION
Students who do well in Accounting 115 are those who attend class regularly and make a substantial effort to read the text prior to class. Therefore, I will assign up to 20 points for participation in classroom discussion. Please note that attendance will be taken at each session.
GRADE OF INCOMPLETE
A grade of incomplete (I) will only be given to students who miss the Final Exam due to serious illness or a death in the family. A doctor's note or obituary must be provided in order for this grade to be given. Any student who misses the Final Exam and does not abide by this policy will receive an automatic grade of zero for the Final Exam.
WITHDRAWALS FROM COURSE
Friday, February 15, 2008 is the last day that students are permitted to withdraw or drop from a course. After that date, students are permitted to withdraw only in case of serious illness.
OTHER INFORMATION
Students are expected to check Blackboard Vista and their email during the week for the following: Chapter notes, power points, assignments, announcements and other important information.
