Silver for Dunne in National 3,000m Championship event
At the Woodie’s DIY Juvenile championships at Tullamore Harriers
stadium on Saturday and Sunday last Dunleer AC athletes were in action
in the under 12 to under 19 age groups.
Carl Dunne put in a magnificent performance, running a Personal Best
in the 3,000 metres to get the silver medal in the under 18 boys’
event. His time of 8.52.04 was almost 14 seconds clear of the 3rd
placed Raheny Shamrocks runner and a mere second behind the winner
from St. Abban’s. Carl has been building towards this great time all
season and is improving with each race. A recent gold medallist with
the Irish mountain running team in Italy and a gold medallist with the
senior St. Josephs CBS team in the All Ireland cross country event in
March, Carl is enjoying a great period of athletics.
Club mate Aaron Hanlon produced another great run to finish 4th in the
final of the boys under 16 800 metres in 2.02.74, and still has the
1500m final to come next weekend. As well as these experienced
athletes Dunleer AC had another representative in Conor Faulkner,
competing in his first National Track and Field Championships, having
qualified from the Leinster event. While not in the medals this time,
Conor showed great talent and determination in both of his events, the
under 16 javelin and the 100 metres.
Irish Milers’ Club
Dunleer AC man Tomás Cotter, home for the summer from his US college
competed in the 1500m last Thursday night at Morton Stadium, coming
home in a very quick 3.52. This race coupled with his 800m in the
National under 23 Championships last weekend when he ran a PB of
1.54.44 should be good preparation for his run in the steeplechase in
the National Championships in Santry next weekend.
