AAAHA AWARDS

Richard Janz Award- Mite who exhibits the most determination for learning and playing the game. The player’s enthusiasm for hockey provides his/her teammates with a balanced perspective, emphasizing team play and a sense of personal accomplishment.

Kip Taylor Award- Most typical squirt. Player has much to learn and many skills to acquire, but has sincere desire an enthusiasm and is a credit to the team and the entire hockey program.

Dean H. Leith Award- Squirt or Peewee player. The player, who in all circumstances, plays with intensity, enthusiasm and courage, regardless of the level of skill. In effect, this is the “Hustler of the Year Award.” This award is given in the squirt or peewee division where it is so desirable to encourage effort regardless of differences in individual development.

Ricky Stegath Award- The most improved player in all of AAAHA, usually awarded to a peewee, because this the level at which the greatest improvement in a player is usually seen.

Robby Toth Memorial Award- The peewee goalie who displays the most heart as demonstrated by his determination, intensity of effort, attitude, team leadership, and sportsmanship. This award recognizes outstanding enthusiasm and dedication, regardless of skill.

James F. LaPointe Trophy- The bantam player who best displays the following: scholarship, good attitude, team leadership, hockey skills, coachability, dedication to the sport, good sportsmanship, and improvement.

John Macinnes Award- Midget goalie who displays determination, sportsmanship, scholarship, and dedication to the sport and the art of goaltending.

Jill Weber Memorial Trophy- This trophy is awarded to the female AAAHA player who demonstrates desire, confidence, and sportsmanship. The trophy is in memory of Jill Weber who passed away in 1995, after a two year struggle with breast cancer. Jill’s boys, Billy, Michael, Brian, and husband Ken are members of AAAHA. She was on the 1992 Championship Woman’s Hockey Team called the “Steel Magnolias” which won the Stephi’s Cup.

Thomas D. Gilson Award- Dr. Gilson was one of the instrumental people in organizing amateur youth hockey in Ann Arbor and in Michigan. He represented our community in the early meetings of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association, and served as the first president of the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey League from 1951 until 1953. This award is presented to an AAAHA volunteer(s) who has demonstrated outstanding dedication to amateur hockey.
