A BONSAI PROFILE

JORGE LUCERO: BONSAI ARTIST, TEACHER AND LECTURER

A native of Cordoba, Argentina, resided in London, England since 1963; during the middle Sixty's, his interest in Bonsai starts to develop after visiting the Chelsea Flower Show. In the late 60's

and after visits to New York, California and Florida, Jorge establishes his residence in Florida.

His experience grew after apprenticeships and tutoring under such Masters as John Y. Naka and Toshio Saburomaro, and many others.

Since 1973 Jorge has been conducting Lectures and Workshops throughout the Southeastern United Sates, and since 1975 throughout Central and South America, including Mexico, Costa Rica, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela, and was instrumental in several of these countries on the formation of their first Bonsai Societies.

A professional Lecturer, Teacher and Instructor for more than 20 years, both in English and Spanish, Jorge's vast experience includes working with both cold climate and tropical plants

in all the styles of Bonsai, Penjing, Saikei and Suiseki. Among other subjects, basic oriental garden design and oriental philosophies and religions in their relationship to Bonsai are also included.

In 1992 he was invited to conduct Bonsai courses at Duke University, in Durham, North Carolina, then at Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, Salem College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina and at the Atlanta College of Art in Atlanta, Georgia. Jorge still teaches the Bonsai course, as well as other plant related course at some of this institutions. In 1993 he was invited to work at the Monastery of the Holy Spirit (Trappist Monks, Cistercian Order) helping in the conduction of their large Bonsai business, started several years early by Father Paul, a long time friend. Since then, Jorge has resided in Atlanta, Georgia.

Other activities include Editor for several years of the "FLORIDA BONSAI" magazine, Producer and Editor of the "ALL ABOUT BONSAI" Newsletter, still published, and many articles published in different publications both here and in Latin America.

He has been the recipient of several awards, citations and Honorary Memberships:
