Thank you for your interest in publishing with Martingale. We are actively seeking proposals for books on quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

We make initial assessments and decisions on the basis of carefully completed proposals as outlined below.

Please email your submission to Cathy Reitan, Editorial Author Liaison, at . We will contact you if we require additional information or finished samples of your work.

  • Signed Manuscript Release Form (email signature is acceptable)
  • Completed Author Background Questionnaire
  • Table of Contents that clearly indicates the content of the book
  • Lists of projects, indicating skill level for each; include snapshots

of finished or in-progress projects and sketches or drawings of those not yet started.

  • Sample project instructions

Manuscript proposals are reviewed on a monthly basis. Editorial, Marketing, and Production personnel are involved in the review. The final decision will be based on your proposal, your work sample, your completed Author Questionnaire, and our feasibility analysis. The feasibility analysis investigates such basics as our cost of producing the book and our ability to market your work successfully and competitively. Part of this process may also include a customer survey to test the concept.

If your proposal is approved for publication, you will receive a call from one of the editors regarding a publishing contract. We pay quarterly royalty based on net sales of your book, as spelled out in the publishing contract that you will be asked to sign. As a service to you, Martingale applies for the copyright on your book in your name.

After you have signed your contract, you will receive detailed guidelines for preparing your manuscript. You are responsible for sending the completed manuscript and projects for photography to us at your own expense by the due date specified in the contract. From then on, Martingale pays all expenses for book production, shipping and handling. These expenses include editing, design, layout, illustration and photography.

If you have any further questions, please contact Cathy Reitan, Editorial Author Liaison, at .
