S A CHAMPIONSHIPS : BLOEMFONTEIN


3rd April to 7th April 2006

1. The 61st Annual Championships will be held at the
Basie Human Small-bore Shooting Range, at the Bloemfontein

Shooting Centre, Bloemfontein from 3rd to 7th April 2006.

The Annual General Meeting of the South African Target Rifle

Association will be held on Wednesday 5th April 2006 at 15:00

in the hall of the Bloemfontein Shooting Centre. Items for the

Agenda are to reach the office no later than 5th March 2006.

2. The provisional programme is as follows:

Please note: Shooting will commence at 09:00 on Monday and Tuesday and at 08:00 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. For those shooting in the Dewar and Randle Teams please be on the range at about 06:30 on Saturday 8th April 2006.

MONDAY 3rd April 2006.

Three-positional - 1200 points

Match 1a

Prone unlimited sighters, 40 shots to count.

Match 1b

Standing unlimited sighters, 40 shots to count.

Match 1c

Kneeling unlimited sighters, 40 shots to count.

The Three-positional ladies event will start when the men start Match 1a. This match, out of 600 points, will consist of 200 points each for prone, standing and kneeling and will be fired as a single match.

Scholar’s Championships - under 16 and under 19

Match 17 22.5 metre

Prone unlimited sighters, 60 shots to count.

Match 18 22.5 metre

Prone unlimited sighters, 60 shots to count.

Match 19

Grand total of Matches 17 and 18.

AIR RIFLE COMPETITION

On Monday and Tuesday from 14:00 to 17:00 the Air Rifle competition will take place. The competition shall consist of a 600 match for men and a 400 match for ladies. We shall use a clock in – clock out system and shall hopefully have at least 5 automatic shooting bays operational. If needs be this facility could be extended to Wednesday and Thursday afternoons as well. However, the extension will only take place if there is sufficient support and man power.

Scholar’s Championships - under 16 and under 19

Matches 6 and 7 will form the 50 m part of the Scholar’s Championships - under 16 and under 19.

However, Scholars can continue shooting the 50 m competitions on Thursday and Friday, thus also competing in the 50 m National Championships for under 16 and under 19. Thereby qualifying for selection for the Proposed Junior Protea Prone Team to compete at the International Junior Match to be held in England from 7th to 10th August 2006 and the British Prone Championships to be held from 12th to 19th August 2006. As well as the International Junior Postal Match for which Dewar Colours are awarded.

(Depending on whether the Air Rifle match requires the venue, AGM could be rescheduled to 17:00.)

Monty Cohen Trophy - ladies only - irrespective of class.

Grand total of Matches 8 & 9.

FRIDAY 7th April 2006.

Match 10 Joie de Vivre/Davis Trophies

Prone unlimited sighters, 60 shots to count.

Davis Trophy - ladies only - irrespective of class.

INTERNATIONAL WAKEFIELD and JUNIOR MATCHES

These matches will be fired concurrently with Match 10.

Only the top 10 South African A Class shooters qualify for the

Wakefield Match. The top 10 Juniors irrespective of gender will be

selected for the Junior Match. The ISSF rules will apply to the

Junior Match. Two alternates will be selected who can also shoot,

however they will not receive colours.

J W HUMAN MEMORIAL MATCH

This match will be fired concurrently with Match 10.

The qualifiers for the J W Human Memorial Match will follow the

procedure as laid down in the official programme brochure

involving the first four matches of the prone championships.

Please note: All International matches (whether shoulder

to shoulder or postal) shall take precedence over the

inter-provincial matches. Furthermore, the times quoted in the

programme are subject to the prevailing weather conditions.

Match 13 H L Meyers Trophy

Club teams The scores obtained by the marksmen in

Of 4 Match 10 will be used for this match.

Match 14 Mitchley Shield

Provincial Teams This match will be fired after the J W of 8 Senior & Human Match. The top marksmen from each

6 Junior marksmen province shall shoot against each other.

Match 15 Ray Haggard Trophy

School Teams The scores obtained by the marksmen in of 4 Match 10 will be used for this match.

Total of Matches 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

Prize giving and Reception

The prize giving will be held in the Bloemfontein Shooting Centre

on Friday 19:00 for 19:30.

A reception, at ≈ R 60-00 per person, will follow the prize giving.

Only ticket holders will be served.

A cash bar will be available.

INTERNATIONAL DEWAR POSTAL MATCH

06:30 for 07:00

Only the top 20 South African A Class shooters qualify for this competition. The scores of Match 16 will be used to select the team. The match will be fired as early as possible, weather conditions will determine the commencement time.

INTERNATIONAL RANDLE TROPHY MATCH

07:30 for 08:00

Only the top 10 South African ladies qualify for this match.

The scores of Match 16 will be used to select the team.

The match will be fired as early as possible, weather conditions

will determine the commencement time.

10. CLASSIFICATION

The classification standards are:-

A Class 96.5 and upwards

B Class 94 to 96

C Class below 94

D Class Scholars who have as yet not attained a 50 m handicap

of 90 or above.

F Class See rules pertaining to F Class in latter part of Newsletter. A, B, C or D Class shooters may not participate in F Class.

These classification or handicap scores are determined by

averaging the last three scores of the shooter in competitive

shoots. However, if the average decreases the handicap remains the

same, but if the average increases the handicap score will then

increase. The average is always determined to the nearest 0.5. The

handicaps must be forwarded to the secretariat as early as

possible in the new year, so that we may apply the new handicaps

at Nationals and at Provincial Championships. These handicaps

stand for the rest of the year, unless the shooter wishes to

reclassify to a higher class or attains National Colours.

The F-Class is reserved for our senior and/or visually handicapped

shooters, who may shoot with diopters, eagle eyes, telescope, in

fact any type of sights which enable them to obtain a clearer

sighting diagram. F-Class shooters must shoot with a 0.22 rifle

and use low velocity ammunition.

11. Entry forms

Entries must reach this office not later than 27th March 2006. Thereafter, this office will close and the late entry penalty comes into force. Further, no telephonic entries will be accepted. The Fax number is 046 622 7941 and the e-mail address is . Please remember that all entries whether fax or e-mail must have at least the following information: name and

surname, gender, do you shoot from the left or right shoulder, class, postal address, e-mail address, contact numbers - both fax and telephone, Identity number, make of rifle and serial number and finally your entry details. Entries which do not contain these details will be considered as late entries!

The postal address for entries is: SATRA, P O Box 687, Grahamstown, 6140.

Targets must be collected on Sunday afternoon for the

whole prone competition. If you will not be there on the Sunday, get a friend to collect the necessary and pay if you have not done so.

Please try to pay all monies when you submit your entry form. The

Association's bankers are Standard Bank - Grahamstown, Branch Code

number 05 09 17, Current account number 08 200 903 1, for credit

transfers. If you are depositing cash please ensure that you pay

the cash deposit fee as well, cheque deposits do not carry the same

penalty. {\bf The additional charges will be extracted from shooters and you will not be allowed to enter until all monies have been paid.} Please remember to fax or post the deposit slip, stating for

who and what the monies are for. Further, please note that if the Secretariat has not obtained your SATRA affiliation fees for the current year you will not be allowed to participate in the National Championships. However, upon payment of the necessary fees you may participate and then the onus is on you to recover the monies from your club or province. No hard luck stories will even be entertained!

12. DEWAR, WAKEFIELD, RANDLE and JUNIOR TEAMS

The Dewar, Randle, Wakefield and Junior Teams will be selected on the

results of the National Championships. Only A Class shooters

will be recognised for the Dewar and Wakefield Teams, whilst

only A and B Class shooters will normally be recognised for the Randle Team. However, for International shoulder to shoulder competitions, only shooters who are classified as A Class shooters will be selected. The Dewar Match will be shot on Saturday 8th April 2006. The Randle Match will be shot on Saturday 8th April 2006 after the Dewar Match.

The Wakefield and Junior Matches will be shot on Friday
