Kentwood Athletics: Home of the Conquerors
2016-2017
Benefits of Participation
We believe being participants in athletics helps our students become more well-rounded, competitive and confident as people and athletes. This philosophy encourages our students to be exposed to more experiences and to deal with situations where they can grow and become resilient and successful young men and women. We want their stay at Kentwood to prepare them for life beyond high school. Research shows that students who are involved in extra curricular activities do better academically and experiences contribute to the forming of well rounded citizens.

Attendance
Kentwood athletes are expected to be in class and on time everyday. In order to attend practice or compete, the student/athlete must be in class at least
four periods per day. Special circum-stances will be handled on an individual basis by the AD and principal.
Athletes are expected to practice and compete over school breaks that may be a part of their season.
Grade Requirements
WIAA has set a minimum of passing 5 out of 6 classes for participation in Athletics. KentSchool District has adopted a minimum of 2.0 GPA, in the previous semester, as well. If the previous semester is below a 2.0, the cumulative GPA will be used. If the athlete still does not have the required 2.0 GPA they must:
- Carry weekly grade checks and maintain at 2.0 or better in season.
- Failure to do the above will result in the athlete being ineligible the following week.
For student/athlete who does not pass at least five classes the previous semester, the probation period is five weeks. During this time they may turn out, but cannot compete. This student would be required to carry a weekly grade check the entire season as well.
