Job Title:

College Plumber and Leading Tradesman

Job Contribution:

To be a key member of the college maintenance team with responsibility for planned and reactive maintenance of college buildings and its estate. The college plumber will have a specific responsibility for the maintenance and safe upkeep of all plumbing, mechanical and related college services.

Reporting to:

The Works Supervisor and the Master of Works

Responsible for:

Ensure efficient and effective reactive maintenance and repair of mechanical, plumbing and associated services and equipment. Attend expediently to defects and repairs identified on the ‘Fault Sheet’ reporting system.

Planned inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair of all mechanical, plumbing and associated services and installations; typically: -

Pressurized vessels - desirable

Drainage

Gutters, hopper heads and downpipes

Potable water hygiene

Maintain, repair, and replace kitchen equipment, sanitary ware installations.

Carry out new plumbing installations and additions to existing services

Lead work repairs and installation of new leadwork – would be desirable

Roofing repairs to leadwork, tiles, slates and flat roof membranes

The reading and collation of gas and water meter readings.

In accordance with the college purchasing policy order materials and goods for use of the maintenance department. Ensure the goods represent value for money.

To maintain minimum sufficient stock levels of necessary consumables and minimize wastage.

To carry out risk assessments prior to carrying out any work and ensure safe practices are followed.

To oversee, mentor and direct other members of the maintenance team or trainees assisting with carrying out work.

To maintain records and documents, both written and electronically to comply with all statutory and college requirements

To carry out work in a tidy and workman like manner, keeping the workplace and the workshop clean and clear of rubbish

Responsive out of hour’s attendance to call out’s from the duty porter.

Whilst the principal work is plumbing it will be a requirement to undertake other types of work carried out by the maintenance department and assist other trades and carry out such other duties as detailed by the Master of Works.

Extensive range of electrical skills and competence

Aptitude for general building and maintenance skills

Able to work at heights from ladders, towers, scaffold or mobile platforms

Ability to work as part of a team

Communication Skills

Able to work under own initiative and set example to others

Computer literate

Full Clean Driving License

Show reliability, discretion and trustworthiness at all times

Qualifications and Training

Recognised plumbing qualification through apprenticeship or NVQ

First aid

Health and Safety Competency Certificates; or willing to attain

Remained qualified to current industry standards and be willing to attend further training as required.
