Science FictionOne Pager Book Report Assignment

Due: Monday, April 3

Assignment: You will be creating a one-page poster as your book report. I will provide the paper for your final copy in class.

  1. Content:
  • You will be writing a paragraph about the theme of your book. Do this either on the back of your poster or on a separate piece of paper. Use the MELCon framework.
  • M stands for main idea. This is where you clearly and concisely state the author’s message.
  • E stands for evidence. Use specific evidence from the text to support your claims.
  • L stands for link. Explain how your evidence proves your main idea.
  • Con stands for conclusion. Your conclusion should restate the main idea.
  • You will need to select one significant quote from the text that reflects the theme. You will use details from the text to support your claim that this quote shows what the theme is.
  • You will need to use vocabulary that is found in the text. Change the color or font of the vocabulary words you use so it is clear. On the back of your one-pager, define the vocabulary words in your own words.
  • Describe the elements of science fiction. There should be some principles of science in your book although they may be combined with fictional elements. The science fiction part of your book should be believable, that is what distinguishes it from fantasy.
  • What science or technology is part of your book?
  • What is the setting of your book? Science fiction books are often set in the future, in space, or in a different world or dimension.
  • What new discoveries, happenings or developments are in the plot of your book? How do or will these discoveries, happenings or developments impact human life?
  1. Design:
  • In the top right corner of your poster, write the following things:
  • your name
  • the title of your book (underlined)
  • the author’s name
  • Make a border.
  • Use images to enhance your content.
  • Use color.
  • All writing should be either typed or written neatly in ink.
  • Ideas should be organized and presented clearly
  • Creativity is welcome!
