Call to order at 8:40 a.m.

  1. ATTENDANCE – Dr. Richard C. Miller

Those in attendance were Richard C. Miller, Monica Burke, Huda Melky, Janet Hall, Jackie Pillow, Aaron Hughey, Harold Little, Martha Sales, Beatrice Cobb, Finley Woodard, Pam Herriford, Michelle Hollis, Quentin Hollis, Zubair Mohamed and Cindy Smith.

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

The minutes from the October 15, 2010 meeting were reviewed and approved.

  1. UPDATE – DIVERSITY PLANNING WORKGROUPS
  1. Dr. Miller asked workgroup leaders to update the committee on their workgroups:

1.Michelle Hollis met with her workgroup on October 27, 2010. The foundation was laid and the mission of their workgroup was discussed. They have decided to meet bi-weekly.

2.Huda Melky met with her workgroup on October 25, 2010 and Faculty/Staff hiring was discussed. The Affirmative Action Plan already has the data this information has been sent to the workgroup.

  1. Dr. Miller shared that the University Senate hasn’t submitted their names yet of who will serve on the workgroups.
  2. Dr. Miller stated that even though the Diversity Plan is changing, we will still be mindful of African Americans on campus.
  3. Dr. Miller said the KY Plan will be retained for the coming year and no status changes will be made at the institutions.
  4. There was discussion regarding the new race categories and how that will affect the KY Plan since it is race based. The new process allows you to pick more than 1 race.
  1. REVIEW OF LATEST DRAFT OF THE ADMINISTRATIVE REGULATIONS
  1. The latest version of Administrative Regulations were sent electronically to the committee members to review.
  2. The CPE has a meeting today and the latest draft will be presented.
  3. Dr. Miller discussed the 8 objectives that are to be reviewed and how WKU will be measured.
  4. WKU has to meet 6 of the 8 objectives. Senate Bill 398 says if you don’t meet 6 of the 8 you can’t offer any new degree programs.
  1. 2010 SREB MINORITY FACULTY RECRUITMENT COMPACT – REPORT
  1. Monica Burke said there were very qualified individuals who attended. Sixty-six people signed WKU’s sheet and resumes were obtained. Materials will be sent to department heads for their review. Dr. Miller would also like the department heads to notify him when they make a contact so they will be held accountable. He doesn’t want these possible recruits to fall through the cracks. Next year it will be held in Arlington, VA and Dr. Miller asked if any committee memberswould like to attend.
  1. 2010 POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION DIVERSITY PLANNING SUMMIT
  1. The 2010 Postsecondary Education Diversity Planning Summit will be held on Monday, November 29, 2010 at EKU. The summit is for representatives from institutes to talk about Diversity Planning. The registration form was sent to committee members electronically and Dr. Miller encouraged Workgroup Leaders to attend. Dr. Miller will look into funds to see if the group can go the night before. Dr. Miller would like to know on or before Friday, November 12, 2010.

  1. Jackie Pillow attended the meeting and updated the group on the activities planned for the month of November.

A.Dr. Miller and Huda Melky will be presenting at the Equal Opportunity Workshop in Las Vegas, Nevada next week.
