GREAT AMERICAN HERO

DISPLAY FOLDER INSTRUCTION SHEET

The Display Folders will highlight interesting and important things about the GAH. It will be positioned next to students in the gym during the Wax Museum. It consists of a Front, Back, and six inside “panels” (pages). An overview of how to create the Display Folders will be given in class. Here are the specs for the Display Folders:

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1. Any text used on the Display Folders needs to be computer printed, except for the Biographical Report.

2. Use the same (very legible) font type for the entire Display Folder. It may be Times Roman, Arial or Calibri, or any Sans Serif style (not fancy).

3. Everything placed on the Panels needs to be neatly matted (see below).

PANEL 1

1. Students should place a ½” – 1” themed border around this panel. “Themed” means something pertaining specifically to the GAH. For example, if the GAH was Jackie Robinson, the border could be baseballs or baseball bats.

2. The GAH name should be about 36-48 pt. font size and matted on construction paper having a ½” border. It should be placed toward the top of the panel. You may need to play with the font size to make it fit between the borders.

PANELS 2-5

1. Print up the 12 interesting facts using a 20-24 pt. font size, single-spaced. Cut each of them out leaving about ¼” white space around the text. Glue each cutout text to construction paper (same or different colors). Next, cut again leaving a ½” border of construction paper border around the facts.Position three facts on Panel 2 so you can see how much space they take up. Don’t glue them down yet!Save all matted facts until you have completed #2 (below).

2. To help add interest to Panels 2-5, print and mat pictures, timelines, maps, primary documents, and/or charts related to your GAH. Each graphic needs to have a caption. For example, if you printed a picture of your GAH, you could simply type up his/her name to use as the caption (and perhaps the date that the picture was taken, if you know it). Glue down the picture and caption on construction paper and cut leaving a ½” border of construction paper around the graphic and caption. Remember how much space your three facts took up on one panel, so be careful in how big your graphics are!

3. Position three matted facts on each of Panels 2-5. Place your matted graphics between your facts wherever they will fit, preferably next to any facts that they go along with.

PANEL 6

The hand-written report will be mounted on this panel, stapled at the top.
