In general, follow the signs to Rt 501 North! Here are the details:

US 460 - From the West of Lynchburg: From 460, take the right-hand exit to 460 E Business (Timberlake Rd). Proceed for about 3 miles. At the junction of Rt 501, exit to the right and follow 501 North for about 2 miles to a traffic light at Rt 221. Continue straight on Rt 501 N through the light at Rt 221. At the next light, turn left onto Rt 501 North. At the next light, turn left (still 501 N) and go about 2 miles. Turn left onto Coffee Road (Rt 644) and go about 2 miles. The Boonsboro Ruritan Club Building is on your right.

US 460 - From the East of Lynchburg: Exit 460 at Candler's Mountain Rd (a right turn exit). Follow signs to Rt 501 North (River Ridge Mall will be on your left, and Days Inn will be on your right). Take the exit ramp to the right to Rt 29 South/501 North. Follow 501 N for about 3 miles. See italics above.

US 29 - From the North of Lynchburg: Follow Rt 29 South into the city limits (do not use Rt 29 Business or Rt 501 Business). Cross the James River and proceed on Rt 29 to Rt 501 (Lynchburg Expressway). Do not exit left to Rt 29 South to Danville. Follow 501 North for about 3 miles to Rt 221. See italics.

NOTICE TO EXHIBITORS

  • Safety of the dogs is our primary concern. By entering this trial, exhibitors acknowledge they are familiar with the rules and regulations of this sport and that their dogs are familiar with and able to perform all obstacles safely.
  • Entry fees will not be refunded in the event that a dog is absent, disqualified, excused or barred from competition by the action of the Trial Committee.
  • All dogs MUST be on-leash, crated, securely penned, or otherwise under physical control at all times when not competing or at the practice jump.
  • In accordance with AKC Rules applying to Dog Shows, no dogs under the age of six (6) months are allowed on the show site.
  • All dogs 12 months of age or older that are registered with the AKC, or that have Limited Registration or an ILP number are eligible to enter this trial.
  • It is expressly understood that exhibitors alone are responsible for the behavior of their dogs and/or children. Any exhibitor whose dogs and/or children create unnecessary disturbances or engage in unsafe or disruptive behavior may, at the discretion of the Trial Committee, be asked to leave the Trial Site. In such case, no refund will be made of any fees paid.
  • No entry fee will be refunded if the trial cannot open or be completed by means of riot, civil disturbance, fire, or an act of God, emergency, act of public enemy, or any other cause beyond the control of the organizing committee.
  • All handlers must pick up after their dogs at the trial site and at the motels. Anyone witnessed not cleaning up after their dogs will be requested to leave and no refund will be made of any fees paid.
  • A limited number of catalogs will be available for purchase at the Trial Secretary’s table for $12. Catalogs may be prepaid and reserved in advance for $10. A free running order will be provided to each exhibitor.
  • The Dog Owners Training Club of Lynchburg and Boonsboro Ruritan Club assume no responsibility for any loss, damage or injury sustained by exhibitors, handlers, spectators, or to any of their dogs or property, and further assumes no responsibility for injury to any child not under the control of his or her parents or guardians.
  • Exhibitors are responsible for being at the ring gate when it is their turn to run and checking in with the gate steward. No classes will be held up by a late exhibitor.
  • Food and drink will be available at the trial site. Volunteer Workers will receive a free lunch and raffle tickets to the workers raffle.

CONTACT FAMILIARIZATION

All obstacles and equipment used in this trial meet the American Kennel Club requirements for agility trials.

  • Novice dogs and handlers will have contact familiarization period prior to the start of the Novice classes on Saturday. Only dogs not entered on Saturday (or Sunday) will be allowed contact familiarization on Sunday (or Monday).

PRIZES AND AWARDS

Rosettes and a choice of dog treats or toys will be awarded for all 1st through 4th place in each jump height in each class (dogs must qualify to receive a placement).

Qualifying ribbons will be awarded to all dogs receiving a qualifying score.

Medallions will be awarded for all titles completed at these trials.

Any dog completing requirements for a MACH title at our trial will receive:

  • MACH Medallion
  • MACH Certificate

Special Award to the dog with the Best “Triple” Double Q’s

(qualifies in both Exc B and Exc B JWW at least three of the four trial days, largest accumulated seconds under time wins)

All prizes must be claimed the day of the Trial; none will be mailed.

CAMPING and RV PARKING:

NO RV camping will be allowed on the trial grounds, except for one DOTC member’s RV for security and vendor trucks. We expect to reach our limit of 660 runs per day and need all available parking space for exhibitor’s regular vehicles. You may camp in your shade tent overnight, but no restroom facilities will be available from 6 pm until 7 am.

Heights will run from 4" to 24" in all classes all days. Excellent classes will have split walkthroughs for Mini (4"-16") and Maxi (20"-24"), with a change of workers from Mini to Maxi.

  • Judging begins at noon on Friday, at 9 am on Saturday and at 8 am on Sunday and Monday. The first briefing will be held 15 minutes before start of judging.
  • Preferred classes will run with the appropriate regular classes and height divisions
  • There will be two rings running simultaneously on Saturday and Sunday and Monday.
  • Exhibitors are responsible for being at the ring gate when it is their turn to run. If you have a ring conflict, your standard run should take precedence. Please notify the Gate Steward at the start of your class.

  • Owners are responsible for entering the proper height divisions.
  • Dogs entered in the Preferred Classes MUST jump in their measured division (they are not allowed to jump higher as Regular Class dogs are).
  • All dogs without a valid permanent or temporary AKC height card will need to be measured by a judge of record before running, except 24” class dogs. If a Volunteer Measuring Official or AKC Representative is present, all dogs without cards must be measured.
  • DOTC will accept photocopies of your current AKC Jump Height card with your completed entry form.

ENTRY FEES

$15 for 1st entry of each dog, each day (which includes $3 AKC recording fee)

$10 for 2nd entry of the same dog, the same day

  • No refunds will be given for overpayment of fees if the error is less than $10.
  • A fee of $25 will be charged for all returned checks. Repeated returned checks will result in the exhibitor being placed on a cash basis for payment of entry fees.
  • Bitches in heat shall not be eligible to participate. Entry fees (minus the $3 per trial AKC registration fees, the $1 per run Judge's fee and the $1 per run Secretary fee) will be refunded for bitches which come in season or for injured dogs after the close of entries provided that the Trial Secretary receives written notification before the commencement of judging and verification from veterinarian is provided within 7 days of notification.

  • DOTC requests that you also provide the following information:
  • call name
  • home phone number; and
  • email address, but ONLY if you check your email messages on a regular basis!
  • Express mail entries must be marked “no signature required” which allows them to be left without a signature.
  • Owners are responsible for errors on entry blanks, for entering the same dog twice, or for entering a dog in a class in which it is ineligible to compete, regardless of who makes such errors. Dogs wrongly entered in a class may not be transferred to another class after entries close (except for move-up provisions as specified.)

INVALID ENTRIES

Invalid entries will be returned to the address on the entry form. The following constitute an invalid entry:

  • An entry which is missing any AKC-required information.
  • Entries not on official AKC forms or on a photocopy of an AKC form without the current agreement and rules on the reverse side or attached to the entry form.
  • Entries which are illegible, or incomplete.
  • Entries received with insufficient fees will be returned.
  • Returned checks do not constitute a valid entry.

Conditional, unsigned, incomplete, email, telephone, fax or telegraph entries cannot be accepted. Please check your entries carefully!

CONFIRMATIONS

  • Confirmations will be sent via US mail only if an exhibitor does not have an active email addressor upon specific request.
  • An initial confirmation will be sent to the email address on the AKC entry form after your entry has been processed. Please review this confirmation for input errors, and notify the Trial Secretary of any corrections.
  • Final confirmation of entry and schedule of judging will be sent to the email address on the AKC entry form after closing date.
  • If an exhibitor has not received the schedule information within five days of the show, contact the Trial Secretary.
  • Up to date trial information including directions, maps, running order, and judging schedule will be available on the web site

MOVE-UPS & WITHDRAWALS

  • Move-Ups will be allowed. The following information must be provided to the secretary (in writing or by email) no later than 12 noon on Monday, June 27, 2005: dog’s registered name & call name, breed, AKC registration number, title completed and date, class currently entered, new class requested, owner’s name and date.
  • Phone calls requesting move-ups will not be processed.
  • Trial Day Move-ups will be allowed. Move-ups to Excellent B for Saturday and Sunday and Monday will be accepted on Friday until the close of Friday’s trial. Move-ups to Open or Excellent for Sunday and Monday trials are allowed if the move-up information is provided in writing to the secretary before the close of the previous day's trial.
  • Withdrawals are allowed before June 17 at 6 pm with full refund of fees. All withdrawal requests must be made in writing or by email and must include the dog’s registered & call names, breed, AKC registration number, class entered, owner’s name and date. Withdrawal requests by phone can not be accepted.
  • No move-up or withdrawal is official until you have a written or email acknowledgement.

WORKER SIGN UP FORM

We are depending on the Excellent exhibitors to help us unload our equipment, set up the ring gating and build the courses on Friday morning. We will arrive with the equipment on Friday morning around 9 am , so please plan to be there as early as possible. We know that we can count on you to help! Details about timing will follow later.

We are relying on our agility exhibitors to help us make our trial a success. Please be generous with your time and expertise. If you would be willing to help in any of the following areas, please fill out the form below and return it with your entry. We will make sure that your duties do not interfere with your running your dog. You will get a walk-through to plan your strategy! If you are running a dog in EXC 20-24", you could work in EXC 4-16" without any conflict. If you are running in Novice, you could work in Open.
