The Hospital is located in Norfolk, VA. Take I-64 East from the Richmond/D.C. area. From the West, you can reach Norfolk either by 664, to Merrimac Tunnel to Portsmouth Exit 9 to the Mid Town Tunnel. Hospital is on the right just under the overpass. From Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel, I-64 to Terminal Blvd. Left on Hampton Blvd, past ODU, take Left just through the light at Redgate Ave. From Va. Beach I-264 to Waterside Drive and take Left on Brambleton Ave. Pass Red Cross and continue around the Sentara Complex, it turns into Hampton Blvd, at the Midtown tunnel split and take a right. From N.C: I-664 to Downtown tunnel and follow same directions as Va.Beach. Please park in the Heart Hospital Garage on backside of the HeartHospital near ambulance entrance. Please park on the 2nd - 4th floors. Access to Raleigh Bldg is across from parking garage on Left.

To educate perioperative nurses about the multidisciplinary groups involved in a holistic approach to managing morbidly obese patients.

Objectives:

  • Discuss the role of the Bariatrician in a comprehensive weight loss program
  • Explain medical management of the obese patient
  • Discuss the role of medications in the treatment of obesity
  • Discuss medically supervised health and fitness instruction programs for the obese patient
  • Describe fitness evaluations and orientation to personal fitness
  • Discuss the marketing of a medically managed fitness program
  • Discuss dietary education for referred patients’ medical weight loss management
  • Explain the importance of nutrition portion and its effectiveness for weight loss
  • Discuss the “Rule of Nines” and how they apply to the morbidly obese patient
  • Explain the importance of 3-D imaging of the Bariatric patient
  • Describe the surgical treatment of the metabolic disease and morbid obesity
