Did Not Regard Equality with God As Something to Be Exploited, but Emptied Himself

Did Not Regard Equality with God As Something to Be Exploited, but Emptied Himself

Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God,

did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself,

taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form,

he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death—

even death on a cross. Phillipians 2:5-8

HYMN “All Praise to Thee” (UMH 166, vs. 1-3)

EVENING PRAYER

Loving and Gracious God,

You created the world and everything in it;

You gave us dominion over all the earth;

And through your everlasting love,

sent your beloved Son to die for our sins;

So that we may one day stand in your holy place

with clean hands and a pure heart.

Blessed be your name.

Open our minds and our hearts

So that we may learn from His life

How we can better serve you with ours.

Create in us a burning desire

to be more like Jesus every day.

Teach us your ways and lead us

along the paths of Love that Jesus walked.

All this we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen

AFFIRMATION OF FAITH by Steve Garnaas-Holmes

We belong to God, eternal and infinite,

Creator of all things and all that is to come.

We follow Christ, who comes to us from God, and reveals God to us.

He heals people and transforms lives, and calls us to join in his ministry.

He was crucified, died, and was raised again by God, and reigns over all Creation;

and he bids us to die and rise with himin the service of the healing of the world.

We are moved by the Holy Spirit,together with the communion of saints,

as members of the Body of Christ, God's holy universal church.

We are confident in the forgiveness of sin, the power of resurrection

and the reality of eternal life.In all things it is our desire to follow Christ,

by the grace of the Holy Spirit, for God's glory.Amen.
