Design of a result oriented One Day Sensitization Programme on

Innovation &Intellectual Property Management for MSMEs”

Date & Venue:30th March 2012(tentative date), Kolkata, West Bengal, India.

It is a proactive initiative for a National (December 2012) & an International programme (September 2013) of IPM for business success of MSMEs within the framework of outreach program of WIPO.

Experiencing from our work related to building capacities of MSMEs and first generation entrepreneurs, we learned that under-utilization of IPM (Intellectual Property Management) system may be largely due to lack of information on how to acquire and manage IP and access information of technology transfer for business success in an effective manner. We feel that there is some shortage of IP related services in MSME support institutions in our country.

In November 2011, Secretary of HUMAN Network INDIA (HNI) took the opportunity to complete successfully WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization, a specialized organization of UN) sponsored “2nd Advance International Certificate Course on IPRs” at Seoul, Republic of Korea.

As a result of his unique international study on IPM for business success, HNI is planning to organize a one day State level sensitization program on "Strengthening MSMEs through Innovation & Intellectual Property Management” at Kolkata, West Bengal, India on 30.03.2012 (tentative date) within the framework of WIPO’s outreach programme.

The basic objective of such initiative is to provide a platform where the MSMEs in the State of West Bengal, India can interact with the concerned State, Central Govt. support organizations, financial institutions and other organizations that may care for their IPM system development and M&E within enterprises for business success to generate more employment in the State and even abroad.

As per the Indian statistics, there are 1552491 units registered MSME sector while around 24548306 units are in unregistered MSME sector. In West Bengal, there are 42635 registered MSME and 1976534 unregistered MSME units. About 40% in Export Business is contributed by MSME group in India.

Considering effective output of the said program only on 10% of the registered units, the total effective units will be around 4250. These 4250 units in the 19 Districts of West Bengal State will create very good publicity and achievement inbusiness environment with particular reference to IPM for competitive local and export market.

This action program will open doors for other enterprises and will create successful utilization of latest technology for business growth at State, National and International level with the support of IPM system.

Therefore your help and guidance are very much needed in every step in the initiativeand allow us to work on Innovation and IP Technology Transfer for 90% of the population in poor developing countries.
