SUMMARY OF MAIN FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE OF JOB
The Deputy Director for Family & Community Liaison contributes to NMCH’s corporate management by introducing changes in nursing practice, support and development of nursing practitioners, setting standards and quality improvement using research evidence. The person is directly responsible for ensuring that distinct requirements of children, families and visitors are understood and are structurally and procedurally carried throughout to articulate with vision, mission, policies and philosophy of the hospital. He/she is expected to act as an advocate and marketer of NMCH services to other hospitals and healthcare facilities to facilitate referrals. The purpose of this position is to ensure referral goals are met and thereferringfacilities receive proper patient referral services.
The main focus is to promote and support NMCH’svision, mission and objectives.
LIST OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and act as a liaison between the family and hospital management
  • Establishgood relationships with families to ensurethat families are an integral part of the child’s care pathway
  • Developprocedures and policies that guide childand family-centred care across the hospital
  • Review, implement and evaluate the application of best care principlesacross the hospital in line with the child and familycentred care
  • Foster relationships with primary referral hospitals and other health care centres to ensure smooth discharge process for patients transitioning from a hospital to NMCH and vice-versa
  • Develop strong relationships with key referral hospital personnel and identify new opportunities for partnerships and growth
  • Review medical documentation, work with physicians to make clinical judgments, and coordinate care with the nursing and admissions department.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree/Diploma in Nursing Sciences
  • Current Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and Midwife
  • A minimum of 9/nine years appropriate/recognizable experience after registration with SANC as a General Nurse
  • 5 + years of Clinical experience in Nursing Administration
  • Project management qualification is essential
  • Ability to liaise with interdisciplinary team members

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, TRAINING AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
  • Broad knowledge of hospital admission standards
  • Use discretion and independent judgment as it relates to admission department in a timely and efficient manner
  • Understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery
  • Professional integrity, ethical conduct, accountability and advocacy
  • Computer literacy is of utmost importance
  • Good verbal and written communication and report writing skills, leadership, organisational, decision making and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of legal framework and policies and procedures within the hospital
  • Conflict management and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of code of conduct and Labour Relations procedures / processes
  • Knowledge of Patient’s Rights Charter.
