Student Development Grants Application Information

Campus Rec is pleased to be able to offer a limited number of Student Development Grants to its student employees, Campus Rec Advisory Board student members, and Rec Clubs Council members.

The grants are in the form of monetary awards toward attending conferences, workshops, seminars, and certification courses that are relevant to the student’s work in Campus Recor their intended future career in campus recreation or related fields. The student grants are meant to defray some of the costs associated with the development opportunities, and may include: up to 100% of a registration fee at the member rate; a percentage of transportation costs; lodging; and/or per diem. Students are expected to research costs associated with attending the development opportunity of their request.

Please note that to be eligible to receive grants, applicants must be currentCampus Rec student employees, Campus Rec Advisory Board student members, or Rec Club Council members. Students who are current members/participants of the parent association or organization of the conference, workshop, seminar, or certification course they wish to attend are usually given priority. Applicants must demonstrate how attending the development opportunity will apply to their role with Campus Rec to be eligible for the grant.

To apply:

The following application information must be submitted for the application to be considered complete:

  • Student Grant Application Form. A standard information form detailing the specifics of the conference, certification, or event for which you are requesting funding. The form may be obtained from your direct supervisor or from the Campus Rec web-site.
  • Statement of Application. Please write a letter or make a video or create an artistic demonstration explaining why you should be awarded a Campus Rec Student Grant. This statementmay include professional and personal goals, outcomes for attending this conference, such as the skills and/or knowledge you expect to acquire, the relationship to on-going programs, the benefit to Campus Rec or the University, and any other pertinent information. It is encouraged to provide details, web-links, or hard-copies demonstrating your knowledge about your development opportunities.
  • Resume. Please submit ata minimum a one page resume.

There is a $900/max per fiscal year for any student

Exceptions for outstanding performance can be granted by the Director of Campus Rec.

Turn in completed applications by emailing them to: with the following title:

Student Development Grant Review Committee – Your Name

or by dropping them off at the front desk of the main office by 5:00PM on the application deadline but no less than 45 days prior to the event if > $500.

Notification of Award:

The Student Development Grant Review Committee will complete its review of applications and notify all applicants by email of its decision within 10 working days of the respective application deadline.
