CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

to the

EARLY CHILDHOOD & FAMILY STUDIES PROGRAM

The Early Childhood and Family Studies Department reserves the right to make the final decision as to whom will be admitted into the department. Prior to application, the following criteria must be met:

COURSES

  • A minimum grade of "C" in COM2400: Speech Communication, or equivalent.___
  • A minimum grade of "C" in ENG1020: Composition.___
  • A minimum grade of "C" in at least one college-level math course.___
  • A minimum grade of "C" in BIO1000___
  • Satisfactory completion (with a grade of "C" or better) of the Sophomore Field.

Experience, EC2900: Field Experience in Multi-cultural Early Childhood

Settings, or in the case of transfer students, an equivalent experience.___

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • A cumulative grade point average of 2.75 or better.___
  • A speech and language screening test. Please call 737-5357 for an appointment.___
  • Demonstrated proficiency in English (written and oral). Students for whom

English is a second language, may be required to pass the Language Proficiency

Test prior to admission to the department.___

  • A passing score on the Academic Profile Test*. ___

In addition, each candidate will be interviewed by a member of the department, either in the exit interview for EC2900 or, in the case of transfer students, by a Department Chairperson or designee. A brief writing sample will be requested at that time.

*This score is highly correlated with the Praxis Exam.
