Dear Parents and Carers

Sports Day: Monday 18th July starting at 1.20pm.

Our top field gates next to the staff car park will be open from 1.05pm. Our school association will be selling refreshments and you are more than welcome to bring a camping /garden chair to sit on as you move around the activities. Your child should bring in their PE kit and a castle colour T shirt to change into at lunchtime.

Thank you to Mr Potts (Annabel's dad in Y6) and his company Lookers Hyundai for donating an official Euro 2016 football which will be raffled by Year 6 pupils on Sports Afternoon. All money raised will go to Clover Hill School fund to benefit our children.

Freeman Hospital Heart Foundation

Miss Sinclair was amazing, she ran 33.75 miles non-stop for 6 hours to raise funds for the Freeman Heart Foundation, which took such great care of Mr Bannister. She was inspiring to watch as she powered through the miles hour after hour, an emotional and very special achievement. Of course we all joined in with our own laps of support, well done girls and boys, it was so impressive to see your determination and enthusiasm, super attitudes and wonderful athletes! Our families have raised an astounding £2,324 for the Heart Foundation. A wonderful Clover Hill day and a truly fantastic result for a very special local charity. Well done everyone and thank you!

I would like to say a big thank you to you all for the fantastic support and generosity you showed me throughout the ‘saved by the bell’ running challenge. I was overwhelmed by the encouragement the children gave me all day long. Those 400+ feet really did get me around and around and around again! Your generosity has helped me reach, and then pass my own personal fund raising goal on ‘Just Giving’ to £550! Thank you, Miss Sinclair

Karate Success

Earlier this week, Theo Sharp was invited to attend the Gateshead sports awards along with other high achieving athletesin Gateshead. Miss Temperley was proud to attend the fantastic night celebrating many youngsters across the borough who display qualities related to the 7 Olympic values. Theo was presented with a well-deserved award in the ‘Excellence’ category for his amazing achievements in Karate and even got to meet Olympians Nathan French and Peter Bakare. Not only has Theo competed at National and European level this year, he has also been selected to represent his country in the JKS England squad. Theo’s attitude towards sport is one to be admired; he shows true sportsman ship and 100% dedication to everything that he does! Congratulations to all of our karate champions who successfully passed their grading last night!

‘Stay and Play’ in Reception

Reception parents very much enjoyed their ‘stay and play’ this morning. It was super to see you all take an active part in the classroom and a great way to see all of the wonderful teaching and learning activities that are very much a part of your child’s day at Clover Hill.

Lunchtime treat: Tuesday 19th July

On our last day, as a special treat for those booking a school meal, Miss Gordon will be providing a special ‘carry out’ fish and chips (or quorn sausage) lunch which we will hopefully eat outside.

Year 6: Fond Farewell

Our Year 6 will be leaving Clover Hill next week. They have been an outstanding class and will be greatly missed. I hope they feel really proud of their time at Clover Hill; it has been a real privilege to have known them all. I would like to congratulate them on everything they have achieved and wish them lots of happiness and success in the future. Good bye and good luck!

Provisional KS2 SATs Results 2016

The government implemented a rigorous new testing regime this year which was much harder than previous SATs tests. In Key Stage 2, nationally only 53% of children passed the required national standard in reading, writing and mathematics combined this year. The tests were certainly more challenging and based on a curriculum that was only introduced in September 2014. We have worked extremely hard at Clover Hill to ensure our children were not disadvantaged by the new curriculum and test syllabus. Instead we embraced the changes and fully prepared the children by skilfully and creatively teaching the new curriculum for the past 2 years. I am thrilled to say that the hard work and efforts invested by the staff, pupils and parents has certainly paid off as we achieved 93%. A truly outstanding achievement to celebrate and be proud of! Our children not only achieve great academic success but we are also proud to recognise and celebrate the excellent social and moral values and attributes that our Clover Hill children are taught and model every day.

New scaled scores were introduced for every KS2 test. A scaled score of 100 represents the national expected standard. The highest scale score possible is 120 and the lowest is 80

National average 2016: Clover Hill average 2016:

Reading: 103 Reading: 113

Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling: 104 Grammar Punctuation and Spelling: 112

Mathematics: 103 Mathematics: 111
