Dear Junior and Middle School Heads

Dear Junior and Middle School Heads

Dear Junior and Middle School Heads,

It seems like only yesterday that we gathered in Toronto for an enlightening conference hosted by UCC and RSGC. Catherine and Don were consummate hosts, and everyone left the conference with much to ponder and reflect upon.

The organizing committee of the 2011 edition of the CIJSHA Conference intends to take the baton in full flight and offer some new and exciting experiences for all participants. LCC, Selwyn House, and ECS have been meeting regularly since last spring, and we are very excited about the opportunity to host everyone in the beautiful, cosmopolitan city of Montreal.

The theme of this year's conference is experiential education and the five domains most often associated with it:leadership, service, learning, sustainability, outdoor education, and global awareness. Experiential education is not one set of issues or one set of activities. It is an approach to learning, one in which students explore questions that are authentic and relevant to their lives. We have some exciting speakers booked who will be able to share their experience and offer
advice on how to begin and/or nurture programs in elementary and middle schools. We hope this topic will lead to lively discourse and sow the seeds for future development in experiential education in our schools.

Initial concerns for attendees are:

Hotel Booking

The conference hotel will be Le Centre Sheraton Montreal, located at 1201 Boulevard René Lévesque West. Rooms have been reserved under CIJSHA Conference. The link to book your room is:

Please note that we have booked everyone into rooms on the Club Level, which provides full access to the Club Lounge and also includes breakfast for anyone staying in those rooms, including spouses, children etc.

Travel

While most of you will probably be taking air transportation, those in Toronto, who enjoy travelling by train should note that Le Centre Sheraton is only three blocks from Central Station. (exit at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel and go west on René Lévesque)

We look forward to hosting you in Montreal in April and wish you the best in the months leading up to the conference.

Sincerely,

Rob Tipney
