Dear Grooming Business Student,

I hope you are all well, enjoying the course, and are waiting in anticipation to attend the seminar/workshop in June. We look forward to meeting you all and will try our best to make it an enjoyable learning experience.

As I have explained in my March e-mail due to the relative large number of Grooming students and our commitment to giving each student personal attention, two practical sessions will be presented. You should either attend the practical phase on 8 & 9 June (A –session) or on 11 and 12 June (B-session). On Wednesday 10th June, you will all be together for the seminar. A few of you have already given my the dates you prefer (see list at the end of this letter) and I will appreciate if the rest could respond ASAP.

As this is quite complicated I will deal with 10 June, the seminar day first:

Venue: The Conference room at InnJoy Boutique Hotel, Shirley Road 1033, Eldoraingne. (Directions to follow – you can also log on to their website for GPS)

Date: Wednesday 10 June

Time: 8h30 for 9h00 – 16h00.

Directions to InnJoy:

From Johannesburg;

Travel towards Pretoria/Johannesburg on the N1/N14. (If coming form Jhb, pass through the Brakfontein interchange and go straight towards Pretoria)

Take the Jean Ave off- ramp, and continue straight – you will be in Lyttelton Road. Pass the Old Johannesburg Rd (R101) and at the next robot, turn left into Frederik Ave. After about 100m, turn right into Shirley Rd and InnJoy will be about 100m to your right

From Pretoria: travel on the N1/N14 towards Pretoria. Take the Jean Ave off-ramp and turn right towards Clubview. You will be in Lyttelton Rd. Continue along Lyttelton Rd, pass the Old Johannesburg rd, then turn left into Frederik, after about 100 m right in to Shirley Rd and then InnJoy will be about 100 m along the road to your right

From the West Rand (Airport): Take the R21 towards Pretoria. Turn left onto the N1 direction Johannesburg. Take the John Vorster Off ramp. On the bridge, turn left towards Centurion. Drive along John Vorster, pass 3 robot intersections. At the 4 th, turn left in to Hendrik Verwoerd. Follow Hendrik Verwoerd up to the Old Johannesburg Rd (also R101), and turn left into the R101. Drive towards Pretoria on the R101 up to Saxby Rd. Turn left into Saxby, at the robot left into Frederik, immediately right into Shirley and InnJoy will be about 100m to your right.

For the practical days:

A-session: Monday 8 - Tuesday 9 June and B-session: Thursday 11 – Friday 10 June.

Venue: The Dog Club: 1 Bellavista Rd, C/o Rifle Range Roads, Haddon, Johannesburg

Time: 9h30 (to avoid peak traffic conditions) - 16h00.

Directions:

From Pretoria:You have two options. I prefer the second one.

Take the N1 and at the Buccleuch Interchange, the M1 North leads straight into Johannesburg. Pass all the off-ramps. The last one is the Smit Street off-ramp. By then you will be on the fly-over. Continue on the fly-over but make sure to be on the right or middle lane as you will be turning to your right shortly. At the end of the fly-over the highway splits, keep right and follow M1 Bloemfontein. After about 800 metres, the highway splits again – keep left and follow Vereniging/Bloemfontein. Continue on this road for about 3 kilometres, then take the Xavier off-ramp and turn left (away from the highway). At the second robot (Rifle Range Road) turn left. You will shortly be crossing over the Klipriver highway (KFC on your right). After crossing the highway and the robot at the highway intersection, turn left at the first robot (Bellavista Road, Leeways Garden Centre signboard at this robot). The Dog Club is on your left-hand side.

FROM PRETORIA (USING EASTERN BYPASS N3 and N12):Follow Johannesburg N1. At Buccleuch take the N3 towards Durban. Pass Linksfield and Van Buuren Road offramps. The highway splits, follow the N12. The highway will split again, keep right to follow the N12. Pass Voortrekker and Comaro offramps. Take the next offramp called Klipriver Road, turn right. Turn right into Rifle Range Road. Turn left at the first robot (Bellavista Road) (Leeways Garden Centre Signboard at this robot). The Dog Club is on your left hand side.

From Potchefstroom,Vanderbijlpark: Follow the highway to Johannesburg. When entering Johannesburg, take the N12 (also known as the Southern By-pass). Continue with the N12; pass the M1 turn-off, up to the next off-ramp – the Xavier off-ramp. At the stop, turn left, away from the highway. At the next robot (Rifle Range Road) turn right. You will shortly be crossing over the Klipriver highway (KFC on your right). After crossing the highway and the robot at the highway intersection, turn left at the first robot (Bellavista Road, Leeways Garden Centre signboard at this robot). The Dog Club is on your left-hand side.

NB: I know that driving in Gauteng can be very daunting. We will be assisting students to get from Pretoria (Centurion) to the Dog Club for the practical.

Travel and Accommodation: Should you be travelling to Pretoria by public transport, I will try my best to fetch you at the airport/terminus on Sunday 7 June and/or Tuesday 9 June and again drop you off again late afternoon on 10 June and/or 12 June. I will need your flight number/bus numbers and arrival and departure times.

I will also need to know before hand who of you who will be attending the workshop on 8 & 9 June will be needing assistance to get to ‘The Dog Club” and back on the two days. For those who will be attending 11 & 12 June we can make the arrangements at the seminar.

Should you want to stay in Pretoria and need accommodation and assistance with transport to the venues, please make use of one of the guesthouses in this area. Included please find the names and contact numbers of four guest houses. All four are within a radius of not more than two kilometres from 17/1 Baobab Street where I live and have received excellent ratings from the AA. I do not have any firsthand experience from any of the establishments, but they all have websites that should give you a good idea of what you can expect. InnJoy where the seminar will be is also on the list, but unfortunately the most expensive!

E-mail: . This is a boutique hotel and a bit more expensive. . It is also very close to a small, upmarket shopping mall and of course also where the seminar will be!

The proprietors of the houses are all very helpful and should they not be able to accommodate you, just ask them to refer you to another of the approximately 35 B & B’s in this area - or phone me!

General: During the workshop and seminar all catering will be provided. Please bring your notes. We usually have a few items for sale, including the books written by Prof Odendaal and a DVD on handling tecniques - so a little cash will come in handy. The dress code will be smart casual for the seminar day and casual with the emphasis on comfort and protection (jeans and shirt of sturdy fabric like denim or cotton) on the practical days.

NB: Please give me a call/e-mail after receiving this letter so that I can be sure that it has reached you! Also, if you have any other specific needs that I can perhaps assist you with, let me know as soon as possible.
