Dear Athletes and Parents,

After much consultation with the administration, as well as other coaches, we want to inform you of some new plans that will be in place for the 2010 season. These changes and additions are not all inclusive but an outline of our commitment to address concerns that were brought up this past season.

We will continue to grow, learn and do our best to provide the best athletic experience for you (and your daughters). We hope that you will join us in this collaborative effort in moving forward to bigger and better things.

Sincerely,

The Volleyball Coaching staff

2010 Main Goals:

  1. Openness and approachability between coaches, players & parents
  2. Program being a large family/community
  3. Better communication
  4. Address & Adjust for Academic & Time Management Issues

New Plans:

  1. Have a pre-try-out ice cream social/informational meeting.
  2. Having a Family Lunch/Dinner after try outs. It will be all fun, no business. We will be looking for a committee of players and parents to work with the coaches to work out the details. Players will get assigned their in-program families.
  3. Having the parents come to the last hour of bonding day to participate in an activity with all the parents together with the coaches because we need to trust each other as well.
  4. Having a few practices with all 3 teams. Both activities with their big/little sisters and position specific drills will be included.
  5. Being more specific about conditioning. Conditioning is a requirement. The coaching staff will be working with Ryan Pratt, the new strength and conditioning coach, who will be handling the conditioning program with the girls. Conditioning will not be punitive.
  6. Better communication between coaches at all levels and more involvement with all 3 teams by all coaches. You will see at practices and games.
  7. The coaching staff will consist of Niki Fritzsch (Head Varsity coach), Bernie Fritzsch (Varsity Assistant coach),Natalie Brown (Varsity Assistant coach), Amy Coogan (Head JV coach), Jenny Moote (JV Assistant coach) and Katie Carroll (Freshmen Head coach)
  8. A parent pre-season meeting (separate from all sport athletic meeting in the fall), mid-season and end of seasonwrap up meeting.
  9. Individual pre-season, mid-season & post-season meetings with each athlete (with the head coach at their level)…also, invite parent to be present at pre-season meeting so all parties are aware of expectations (mid-season is more of a time for the coach to meet with them to talk about non-volleyball things, but would give parents the opportunity to have meetings with me separately).
  10. Freshmen & JV matches at the same time to cut down on game night commitment.
  11. To allow more time for academics:
  12. Adjust game day rule to the following: rotate between Freshmen and JV teams in who has to stay for the Varsity matches so that everyone doesn’t have to stay every time. With 11 games, JV will stay on the 1stgame (odd games 1-3-5-7-9-11). JV requiring a little more commitment is reasonable. Freshmen will stay on the 2nd game (even games 2-4-6-8-10). Each player can have 1 free pass to not stay for any Varsity match of their choosing for any reason they deem fit. If for some reason, a player needs to leave before the varsity match, all that is asked is that this is communicatedto the coachpriorto the game.
  13. Improve responses to emails in a more timely manner; goal is to respond within a 24 hour time frame while in season.
  14. Improve communication by keeping parents and players updated regularly via email and website.
  15. Head coaches appoint the TSG leader to encourage positive parent leadership and involvement.
  16. Outline specific goals for skill development for each level (see skill development hand out).
