Guidelines andEligibility

AlleganyArtsCouncil(AAC)PlacemakingGrantsaremadepossiblethroughtheCommunityArtsDevelopmentprogramoftheMarylandStateArtsCouncil,adivisionoftheMarylandDepartmentofBusinessandEconomicDevelopment.Thisisastate/localpartnershipwherebytheAlleganyArtsCouncilreceivesfundsfromtheMarylandStateArtsCouncilandawardsgrantstolocal artists andnon-profitorganizations.

Asyoucompleteyourgrantapplication,pleasekeepinmindthattheinformationandpresentationofthisapplicationistheonlycontextthereviewpanelmayhavetorateyourprojectforgrantfunding.Pleaseensurethatyouranswersanddescriptionsaredetailedandspecificandaddresstheinformationrequested.Inaddition,pleasetakecarethattheneatnessandformattingoftheapplicationalsoadequatelyreflectsprideinyourwork and your organization. Please also be advised that this grant process is a competitive application process. There is high demand for these funding dollars and not all applications will be funded. Funding decisions and award values are based on available grant funds as well as cumulative criteria ratings received from the grant review panel. The maximum amount of Placemaking Grant funding that shall be awarded to any single individual or organization in a given fiscal year is $5,000.

Eligibility Requirements for Grantees

  1. Artists or non-profitorganization (oreligibleforIRStax-exemptstatus) applicants basedinAlleganyCounty are preferred. Out-of-countyartists and organizationswhich propose toproducean artsproject or arts programminginAlleganyCountymayalsobeeligible.Programming or projects proposed for this grant must take place in Allegany County.
  2. By-lawsof non-profit organization applicants mustprovidethatassetsdonotaccruetoanydirector,officerormemberoftheorganization.
  3. Projects and programsfundedwithAllegany Arts Councilmoneymustbeopentothegeneralpublic.
  4. Fundsmustbenot be usedforfundraisingevents.
  5. Projectsthatproselytizeforspecificpoliticalactionsorreligiousbeliefsarenoteligibleforfunding.
  6. GranteesmustnotifyAACofanymajorchangeintheproject or programasdescribedinthegrantapplication.Intheeventofcancellation,ordissolutionoftheorganization,grantfundsmustbereturned.
  7. GranteesmustcomplywithTitleVI,Section601,oftheCivilRightsActof1964,whichstatesthatnopersonsonthegroundsofrace,colorornationaloriginshallbeexcludedfromparticipationin,bedeniedthebenefitsof,orbesubjectedtodiscriminationrelatedto,thearts.
  8. GranteesmustcomplywithTitleIV,Section1681,oftheEducationAmendmentsof1972andtheAgeDiscriminationActof1975,andSection6101,whichprohibitdiscriminationonthebasisofsexorage.
  9. GranteesmustcomplywithSection504oftheRehabilitationActof1973,asamended,andtheAmericanswithDisabilitiesActof1990whichstatesnootherwisequalifiedpersonshall,solelybyreasonofhisorherhandicap,beexcludedfromparticipationin,bedeniedthebenefitsof,orbesubjectedtodiscriminationrelatedtothearts.
  10. GranteesmustsupplytheAACwithtwo(2)complimentaryticketstoanygrant-fundedprograms.
  11. Granteesmustincludethephrase“SponsoredinpartbytheAlleganyArtsCouncilwithfundsfromtheMarylandStateArtsCouncil.”wheneverandwhereverprogramcreditisbeinggiven.Similarly,granteesshouldalwaysstrivetoinform,inspireandeducatethelocalcommunitywithregardtotheirarts-relatedprogramming.
