Course Texts: Story of Oklahoma – University of Oklahoma Press
Macgruder's American Government - Pearson

Course Topics: (All OAS C3 Skills will be covered.)
This course consists of two distinct semesters. The first semester is Oklahoma History and the second semester is American Government. These two semesters are independent from each other.

Supplies: (Bring these to class EVERY day!)
Paper, Pencils, Black/Blue Ink Pens, Erasers
Folder (for this class ONLY)
Bring your library book to class every day.

Grading Policy:
Be sure to get your STI information from the office so you can check your own grades whenever you want. I grade on a percentage scale. This means that all grades are worth 100 points. Special projects may be entered into STI multiple times. If an assignment has 25 questions, each question is worth 4 points. Your average is determined by adding up all of your scores and dividing by the total number of assignments. According to school policy, there will be at least 2 grades per week and 3 tests per nine weeks grading period.

A = 89.5 – 100+
B = 79.5 – 89.4
C = 69.5 – 79.4
D = 59.5 – 69.4
F = below 59.5

Semester Tests/Exemptions
Broken Bow High School has a policy regarding Semester Test Exemptions. If you are ELIGIBLE for exemptions, you must also have the appropriate grade to be exempt from the semester test. Your semester test will count for up to 20% of your semester grade. This could cause you to fail the class. Keep this in mind as you prepare for the end of the semester.

General Procedures

Bellwork: I have a short assignment on the board every day. This is bellwork. You must complete these assignments daily in order to pass this class.

Name: Please put your first and last name on your papers.

Work Ethic/Behavior: This is a class for credit. Please remember to use academic language in your answers. You are required to do work. Your grade will be whatever you earn. You are expected to follow class and school rules. Character counts. Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a zero, plus discipline from Mr. Hanks.

Tardies: In order to be present, you must be in the room and working when the bell begins to ring. I do follow handbook procedure regarding tardies. Excessive tardies will result in discipline from Mr. Hanks.

Hall Pass: When you return the signature page, I will issue you a hall pass. You will have 8 opportunities each semester to leave the classroom to go to the bathroom, the office, or the library. When you use all of your available passes, you will only be released from the room if the office requests your presence. If you don't use all of your passes, you may turn them in at the end of the semester for bonus.

Bonus points will be offered for wearing Black/Gold or Savage Attire on Fridays and dressing up on Spirit Days. There will be few other opportunities to earn bonus. Ensuring that you have good grades means completing assignments as they are given. Do not depend on bonus points to “get” your grade.

Class Rules:

1. No peanut or almond products in, around, or near me or my room!*
2. Be prepared for class and in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
3. Bring your library book to class every day.
4. Cell phones and MP3 players are only to be used when authorized.
5. Be kind and courteous.
6. Pick up after yourself.
7. Plain, unflavored bottled water is the only refreshment allowed.
8. All handbook rules and procedures will be followed.
9. You cannot wear your hat in the room.

*I am extremely allergic to peanuts and almonds, and any products associated with these nuts. Please do not bring these items or eat them before class.
