Math Analysis Course Syllabus

Attendance

Regular, prompt attendance is required. When the bell rings, you are to be ready to begin

class. You must have a legitimate pass to walk in after the bell rings.

Attendance is taken every day.

Athletic events, field trips, or other school-related absences from class must be excused in

advance or they will be considered a class cut. Passes are not accepted after the fact. You may

not make up assignments that are missed if you cut a class. Instead, you will receive a zero.

Daily Class Requirements

WRITING UTENCIL – Please bring a pencil or a pen with you to every class. Graded

assignments, quizzes, and tests must be completed in pencil only.

NOTEBOOK – A notebook is required. The notebook mustbe a three-ring binder

containing only Algebra I materials.

If you are unable to provide your own three-ring binder, please let me know so we can take

care of this issue.

TEXTBOOK – You will not be given a text book to keep at home during the school year unless

one is requested. If you do take a book home, you will need to sign it out. If the book is lost or

damaged, you must pay replacement costs.

Pennsylvania PSSA Assessment Anchors Coach by Triumph Learning is a consumable workbook that will be used for Math Analysis. Since we will use this during class time only, students will keep their workbook in the classroom. These lessons are intended to prepare and help students study for the Algebra I Keystone exam in January.

CALCULATOR – A graphing calculatorwill be assigned to each student. Students are responsible for turning in the same calculator in June. Students will be charged $100.00 for lost or damaged calculators. Students are allowed to use their own calculators during class.

Math Department Calculator Policy 2013-2014

The math courses offered at Muncy Jr/Sr High School actively integrate calculator technology based on the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Technology Principle.

Many activities implemented within our courses have been created using the features available on the Texas Instruments® graphing calculators. Students may purchase their own calculator or borrow one from their math teacher.

Calculators are treated like textbooks and are the property of Muncy School District. Students will sign one out and return it at the end of the school year. Students who attempt to

turn in a calculator with the incorrect serial number will not receive credit for turning one in. Students who are unable to return their assigned calculator must pay a replacement fee or buy a new calculator to replace the assigned one. New replacement calculators must be in the original packaging with no evidence of tampering and must match the exact model originally assigned.

Some of the latest calculator technology provides students with the ability to import, store, and hide games and messages. If a student is found doing anything inappropriate with their calculator during class, we reserve the right to clear the memory of the calculator, even if the calculator is personally owned. Multiple offenses for inappropriate use will result in a punishment at the discretion of the instructor.

Calculators may not be shared during a quiz, test, or final exam. Students will be expected to bring their calculators to their PSSA testing room in the spring.

While the calculator is an invaluable tool for studying mathematics, there will be times when the instructor deems that a particular topic or skill is more appropriately investigated and assessed without the use of a calculator.

Grading

I will calculate your grade based on the points you have earned divided by the total amount of

points during the marking period. You can earn points through assignments, quizzes, and tests. Your grade can be accessed daily from your home computer using PowerSchool-Parent Portal.

Students will have the opportunity to earn three (3) points per day - one point for attendance,

one point for preparation, and one point for assignments/homework.

Assignment Policy

ASSIGNMENTS – An assignment must be handed in at the beginning of class on the day it is

due. No credit will be given for an assignment handed in late. Assignments with no name or

completed in pen will not be accepted. I will post assignments and their due dates on my

website.

If you are in school, but not in class, on the day of an assessment or when an assignment is

collected, you are responsible for meeting either obligation on that day. Cases of emergencies

will be dealt with individually, at my discretion. In addition, if you miss class due to a one-day

field trip, you are responsible for meeting all obligations by the following class. Failure to do so

will result in a score of zero for any graded material.

Quizzes and Tests

QUIZZES and TESTS – Both are required parts of this course. Make-up quizzes and tests

will be given for excused absences only. Cheating on a quiz, test, or other graded material will

not be tolerated. Any student found cheating will earn a grade of zero.

A pencil is required for quizzes and tests. A quiz or test taken in pen will not be accepted.

Make-up Work

Make-up work is YOUR responsibility. Assignments due the day you are absent will be due

the day you return. If you miss consecutive days, you have as many days as you missed to

make up the work.

If you miss a quiz or test, YOU must make arrangements with the teacher to make it up.

All work not made up in the appropriate time will result in a zero.

Perform to the best of your ability at all times.
