Assistant Manager

Summary

Columbia Country Club was founded in 1898, it is a private member owned club which is situated in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The Club’s 1,600 family members enjoy golf, indoor and outdoor tennis, fitness and aquatic facilities, ice rink and paddle tennis courts. Annual gross revenues of $11 million with food and beverage sales of $4.6 million.

The Assistant Manager reports to and assists the Clubhouse Manager and Assistant General Manager, with oversight from the General Manager. The person in this position will work on large projects including but not limited to Standard Operating Procedures, forecasting, creating reports, data mining and more. The Assistant Manager will also be a visible presence on the floor through the Beverage department and also assisting supervisors in the A la carte and banquet rooms. The Assistant Manager must facilitate teamwork and cooperation between departments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1.)Assist the Clubhouse Manager and Assistant General Manager on developing/implementing business plans, operating reports, forecast and budgets.

2.)Monitor all Standard Operating Procedures, including not limited to safety programs, emergency actions plans, profit loss statements, and the clubs MSDS portfolio.

3.)Maintain a visible presence to members and staff.

4.)Plan, develop, and implement staff training programs including basic service etiquette, beverage service, wine service, health programs, and safety programs.

5.)Attend management and staff meetings.

6.)Use organizational techniques to provide the appropriate tools, keep a clean and orderly environment and accurately provide important information.

7.)Maintains strong industry awareness and consistently works to improve their personal industry knowledge and expertise.

8.)Develop and contribute to planning and implementation of procedures for special club events and catering functions.

9.)Help plan and approve external and internal marketing and sales promotion for the food and beverage department.

10.)Assist with the wine program, selections and promotions.

11.)Assist with inventory, inventory control and data entry.

12.)Understand and assist in maintaining the point of sale system

13.)Assist in monitoring and improving the clubs cost control procedures

14.)Undertake special projects as requested by the General Manager, Assistant General Manager and Clubhouse Manager.

15.)Assists in maintaining the Clubs website, menus, and event flyers.

QUALIFICATIONS

For consideration, individuals should possess the following personal and professional characteristics:

•A minimum of three years of experience in the club industry at a highly respected private club with a track record of increased management growth and development.

•A history of continued professional development.

•Pronounced “people skills” in dealings with staff and members.

•A Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably with a focus on hospitality or general business.

•A strong degree of adaptability and flexibility.

•A team player who can work well and interact effectively with many people both inside and outside of Columbia Country Club.

•Outstanding oral, written and listening skills.
