College & Career Center News – SRVHS Friday Bulletin -- Aug. 24, 2017

The College and Career Center hours are 7:30a.m. to 3:30p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The center is closed on Fridays. Please encourage your students to stop in at lunch or brunch with questions, or make appointments with us to have longer discussions during the school day.

NAVIANCE: Please remind your student to check their Naviance portal frequently for scheduled COLLEGE VISITS, as they will sign up to participate via their Naviance Portal. For Naviancequestions, please email us and we will do what we can to assist.Naviance is a great tool for college and career exploration for all grades, and is an integral tool for seniors applying to college!

SENIORS: See our postings on the College and Career Center pages of the school’s website for tips on starting/continuing your college research and applications. You should have recently received a school loop mail from us, with some important references to assist you in your application process. We will be hosting college visits, application and essay workshops in the coming weeks, so read your emails! Remember to sign up for College Visits on Naviance!

College Preview Days and Regional College Visits: Many colleges offer fall Preview Days for interested students and can be a valuable way to get to know a campus.Cal State East Bay’s Preview day will be Saturday, Oct. 14 (csueastbay.edu/previewday) and Chico State’s will be October 21st ( In addition, many colleges offer admissions events at local hotels in order to discuss admissions, academics, campus life, finances and more. Most require pre-registration. Check college websites to look for local bay area events, and also check the school loop portal for announcements. We post information there as we learn about the details. Some of the posted upcoming events include Carnegie Mellon, 9/5, 6 & 7 and a consortium of 8 liberal arts schools (Kenyon, Claremont McKenna, Haverford, Macalester, Sarah Lawrence, Connecticut, Grinnell and Colorado Colleges), 9/7 & 9.

4 year College Bound Juniors….are you ready to explore which college admissions test (ACT or SAT) you might want to take in the spring?Consider signing up for the Combined ACT/SATpractice teston September 9th, 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. being offered at SRVHS.This test will give you a sense of the questions and format for each type of test.The cost is $30, and proceeds benefit the SRVHS Academic Boosters organization.Registration is now open and can be found on the AB page of the SRVHS website, or accessed through this link: up today as space is limited! Please note:This practice opportunity is targeted for juniors; the same test will be offered for sophomores in the spring.

John Muir Health Volunteer Program! If your sophomore or junior student is interested in pursuing a career in the medical or health fields, suggest he/she consider applying to be one of the three selected SRVHS candidates to volunteer at the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Students may pick up pre-applications in the College and Career Center (see the flyer table!) and completed paperwork must be turned in to the CCC by end of lunch on Tuesday, Aug. 29th to be considered.

Job Board!Stop by the center to check out our job board. We are receiving new postings each day. Splash Swim School, Peet’s Coffee and Kid’s Country are hiring, plus we have postings for jobs to help out local families. If you need a work permit, pick up a Work Permit application from the center.

Remember, your best resource to learn about the happenings in the College & Career Center (CCC) and affiliated community will continue to be the school website ( and your SRVHS School Loop portal. We have our own CCC access “tab” in the center of the website home page, plus you can access School Loop from the left side of the website home page, as well. We hope you will visit both often!!
