PROGRAM

We had a great turnout (25) for our field trip on Nov. 30, to Wieting’s Funeral Home to see their renovations. Daniel and Jamie were very good hosts, providing a tour of the whole facility after our meeting. Dan explained that all areas of the funeral home got “touch ups” with the renovation. From the outside, it appeared that only one corner of the building (elevator) was being worked on, but that was not the case. Upon entering the lower level, you totally forget you are in a funeral home. The renovation made it a very welcoming place for families to gather for a break during funeral visitations. There is a large dining room with seating capacity of 200, allowing families to hold a meal there after the funeral. Food would need to be catered and that can be set up by Wieting’s or the families themselves, if they wish. There is plenty of counter spacefor buffet style serving with several outlets to plug in nescos. There is even a separate counter designed for 9 x 13 dessert pans! They thought of everything! In addition to the dining area, there are two smallerrooms complete with a bar in each and kitchen facilities. In addition to using the space for funerals, the plan is also to rent the space for family gatherings, showers, etc. Dan explained they were able to use many of the cupboards, light fixtures, etc., taken from the Kiel Funeral Home, before it was sold and taken down. Luckily the majority of the items fit perfectly into the renovation. Jamie showed us the office, noting that the area was very cramped before. After the remodel, everyone now has their own work station. Dan also handed out packets with information about the funeral home as well as an Advanced Planning Funeral Guide. Advanced planning helps to take much of the stress off the family when a loved one passes away. He briefly explained funeral trusts and answered questions from members. Our thanks to Dan and Jamie for giving us a chance to tour the facility and hold our meeting there.
