Click and Give! Charity Internet Sites

1. Please read the following paragraph:

Every day, 24,000 people die from hunger. This equals one death every 3.6 seconds. Seventy -five percent of the hunger victims are children. In the world today, 850 million people do not have enough food.

Every time a person clicks on this site (only one click a day per person is recognized) sponsors who advertise on thehungersite agree to pay the site's owners the equivalent of the cost of one-sixth of a cup of food. This money is then donated to Mercy Corps and Second Harvest, two non-profit groups who have been working with the hungry for many years. Mercy Corps distributes emergency food in 74 countries and has long-term projects in the Balkans, Asia, Central America and the Middle East where they also build roads, schools and hospitals and offer micro-credit to the poor to start their own businesses. Second Harvest is the largest domestic hunger relief agency in the United States and gives food assistance to 24 million hungry Americans, including 8 million children and 4 million senior citizens.

Up to 220,000 people a day click on thehungersite contributing over 200,000 cups of food equal to over 10,000 kilos of food every day. In 2004, over 2.5 million kilos were donated and by 2007 this had increased to over 2.8 million kilos. With up to three and a half million visitors every month, thehungersite is one of the most visited sites on the Internet!
