CLASS TITLE:SOCIAL WORK SERVICES PROGRAM CONSULTANT

This is work planning, evaluating and managing programs which provide intervention services to individuals and/or families with social or health related problems.

• Develops, manages and evaluates programs which provide intervention strategies necessary to increase social support services for at risk clients in the community.
• Conducts psychosocial risk assessments, evaluations and developmental screening of high risk individuals and/or families.
• Exchanges information with other health and/or rehabilitative agencies to provide continuity of care for clients receiving services from more than one agency.
• Participates in meetings and workgroups to identify and propose solutions necessary to alleviate community psychosocial problems and to ensure delivery of services to clients.
• Manages, conducts and coordinates case management, treatment, counseling and follow-up services for clients.
• Provides consultation services regarding the interpretation of psychosocial assessment data of individual clients.
• Makes presentations to agency and community groups regarding psychosocial and community service access and intervention issues.
• Conducts training programs for professional staff and members of the local community regarding the implementation of outreach, case management and psychosocial intervention strategies.
• Serves as a field instructor for students performing educational social work internships.
• Performs related work as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of social work and epidemiological principles, practice and prevention techniques.
• Knowledge of psychological, social, life cycle and cognitive stages of development, personality principals and dynamics.
• Knowledge of basic psychopathology, assessment, diagnosis and intervention.
• Knowledge of racial, ethnic, and other cultural groups in society.
• Knowledge of the basic principles of family centered prevention and early intervention service delivery systems.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention theory, practice techniques, and short term treatment strategies.
• Knowledge of the principles and practice of program management, systems theory, community organization theory and delivery of health and human services.
• Ability to teach and promote positive behaviors to at risk populations in the community through the use of social work principals and techniques.
• Ability to assess, advocate for and provide interventions and treatment to clients in an individual, family or group setting.
• Ability to integrate social work services with services provided by other disciplines.
• Ability to manage people.
• Ability to assess budgetary needs.
• Ability to plan, organize and coordinate programs or activities.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A bachelor's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and three years of professional social work experience.
• A master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education can substitute for two years of the required experience.
