CLASS TITLE:SENIOR DATA BASE ANALYST

ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)

This is technical work in the long-range data base planning, data base design, and the development and maintenance of data base standards and policies to manage the data base environment of an agency.

  • Assesses future information requirements in order to develop long-range comprehensive data base plans.
  • Establishes data base policies and procedures.
  • Evaluates user's request for new data elements and systems and incorporate into the existing shared data environment.
  • Coordinates use of the organization's data to ensure data integrity and control redundancy.
  • Develops data base feasibility studies and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Establishes data base design techniques using data modeling and prototyping software.
  • Analyzes and propose changes to data base structures.
  • Maintains data dictionary ensuring uniformity of definitions and setting standards for use of data dictionary.
  • Determines necessary data base security.
  • Assists in selection of data base management software.
  • Educates management in the need for long-range data planning and management of the data resource.
  • Develops and control the procedures necessary to save, retrieve, and recover data bases for hardware and/or software failure.
  • Coordinates reorganizations with the applications and systems staff.
  • Acts as consultant to both the applications and systems programming staff on all aspects of data base and/or on-line management software standards.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and four years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two years of which must have been in data base design; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and five years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two years of which must have been in data base design; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and three years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two years of which must have been in data base design; or
  • A doctorate from an accredited college or university in management information systems or in one of the computer sciences and two years of experience in data base design; or
  • Six years of experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming, two years of which must have been in data base design and either (1) completion of a 720 classroom hour program of study from a vocational/technical school or accredited community college in an area of data processing (excluding data entry), or (2) 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college coursework from an accredited institution which includes four courses in computer science or management information systems.
  • Experience in computer systems analysis and/or computer programming can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
  • Completion of a one-year program of study from a vocational/technical school in an area of data processing (excluding data entry) can substitute for one year of the required computer systems analysis and/or computer programming experience.
