Clanna Ruid Rudie No. 58 Knight Masons

Minutes

Meeting of July 20, 2014

The members of Clanna Ruid Ruide Council No. 58 Knight Masons met as scheduled at 3:00 PM in the Siminoff Lodge room at the Masonic Home in Union City. A special meeting was held earlier at 2:00 PMfor the officers as called for by our Excellent Chief which was for organizational discussions and a formal practice for opening and closing.

The Council was then called to orderby Excellent Chief (EC) Bill Ellison at 3:05 PM with the Officer Positions indicated below. No new members came after the practice opening.

Members that did not attend are listed below (where regrets received are indicated).

The first order of business was a motion and a vote to reinstate Edgar Fentum as a member. As he did not have any outstanding past dues, no additional dues or joining fees are required. The vote was unanimous.

Our EC called for the reading of any unread past minutes, which would be only from our last meeting on January 26 and the field trip on March 30, 2014.Cousin Gregg moved that the reading of the minutes be accepted as they have been posted on our website. This was seconded and passed unanimously.

Treasurer’s Report: The Treasurer reported that we in our checking account as of June 30, 2014: $1,391.85. He also noted that the cost for each new candidate (for the apron, sash, jewel, and pamphlets) was greater than the candidate’spresent membership fee.

Our EC then read the list of proposed candidates that were proposed last January and that have been listed in the January 2014 minutes. It was stated that no objections had been received. There were also no objections at the meeting. The EC then directed the Sec. to mail an invitation to each of these candidates. Cousin Gregg offered to help in finding out any necessary address and email information of these candidates as needed.

The subject of the new ritual books came up during the practice. It was noted that these new spiral ritual books with a green cover dated copyright @ 2013 are now the official rituals for all of our degrees, and all other ritual books (8 ½ by 11) and all old copies should be destroyed. The Sec. has the new books available for $10 each. (4 were sold at the meeting.)

The dates of our future meetings were then discussed. It was decided that we should continue to meet seasonally, four times a year, hopefully on the 5th Sunday of the month as to not overlap with anyother Masonic meetings. After much discussion, the following dates were selected (the May 15 date discussed has since been replaced by May 31):

September 28 – 2:00 PM – Formal Opening and Knight of the Sword Degree Team Practice

November 16 – 2:00 PM – Formal Opening and Knight of the Sword Degree on several candidates.

January 25, 2015

March 29, 2015

May 31, 2015

August 30, 2015

January 31, 2016

A degree team was then asked to be created for the September 28 and November 16 meetings. The Sec. said that he will email out what the team was last year, and the EC asked for volunteers for each cast position. The cast thus far is listed below. It was decided that any cast member must be present on both dates.

It was explicitly stated that all ritual was to be memorized and that no ritual books will be used at the practice or at the degree.

The location of our future meetings was then discussed. After much consideration and discussion, it was decided that we will hold all of our future meetings at the Siminoff Lodge Room at the Masonic Home in Union City. The arrangements are excellent, and we can even use an adequate storage space there under Cousin Edgar’s direction. All equipment will thus be brought from the Burlingame and San Mateo lodge locations (if any) and will placed in the storage locker at Siminoff Lodge.

Cousin Edgar also stated if checks were received as reservations by a week in advance, that attendees could come to lunch at the Masonic Home before the meeting. As lunch is at noon on Sundays, our meetings could then begin at 2:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM. This would also give us more time for our meetings, degrees, discussion, and our ever popular debates.

A motion was then made, seconded, and passed that all of our future meetings will begin at 2:00 PM at Siminoff Lodge on the dates indicated.

Cousin Leslie Dent had been visiting today, from the Council in Vacaville, and he asked to be affiliated with our Council via dual membership. The affirmative vote was unanimous.

Cousin Kevin asked about what was the difference between the expenses we pay for a new candidate and that candidate’s initiation fee. The Sec. said that he will find out and email that to the members. Kevin also pointed out that we could have special jackets for our degrees if the members agreed. He will find out additional details about that idea.

Cousins Kevin and Edgar are founding members of CRR 58, and they discussed their ideas of what was the purpose of our Knight Masons group, and why should it be that members would want to attend. Major items in the discussion included: the Irish working degrees, presentations, papers, debates, and perhaps even performing the 3 Knight Mason degrees at 3 of our meetings each year, followed by the new Installation of Officers. All present agreed that these were great ideas and should be discussed via email before the next meeting.

Our EC then asked for more comments, and finding none, he announced that he had provided food and drinks in the meeting area outside of the Lodge for all members.

The meeting was then adjourned at 4:15 PM.

Respectfully Submitted,

/s/
