Job Title:Income Generation Manager

Main Purpose of Post:

Manage and empower a creative, innovative and effective department toconsistently achieve the required income for the hospice.

To have a full understanding of all current charitable income streams, including individual donations, corporate donations, community fundraising, charity promotions, including lottery and prize draws, trading (including shops, warehouse and online trading), in house events, income from third party fundraising events, legacy income, income from charitable trusts and foundations, andassociated Gift Aid income from individual giving and retail donations.

Toachieve annual income generation requirements within expenditure, whilst maintaining and enhancing the profile and reputation of the hospice and ensuring excellent relationships and communication with local people, communities, organisations and businesses.

To develop the retail arm of the charity.

Key Accountabilities

•To work in collaboration with the Fundraising Consultant in being responsible for the annual income generation budget (currently circa £3.75m) via a range of income streams.

•Achievement of specific income targets for the hospice.This will include the evolution of existing income streams, and the development of innovative income generation initiatives ensuring objectives and targets are met.

•Preparation and achievement of expenditure targets in relation to specific income streams.

•Contribution to and involvement in income generation communications, internal and external including media

•Achievement of regulatory requirements, professional standards and best practice

•As a Senior Manager, involvement in the strategic development and operational running of the Hospice

•Other duties and projects as required by the CEO

Main Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the CEO, FundraisingConsultant and other Senior Managers to develop a vision, strategies, policies and plans for the hospice for the benefit of patients, carers and families
  • To develop and manage the Retail Team to drive for maximisation of income generation, providing direction, expertise and guidance with a view to leading and deliveringspecific fundraising projects and activities effectively as required.
  • To provide appropriate leadership and vision whilst working with the CEO and Senior Managersin implementing plans and monitoring progress against budgets and KPI’s.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual operational plans and budgets for fundraising and retail income to support the delivery of strategic objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for growth in specific existing areas of income generation and identify and develop new opportunities.
  • To manage, develop and deliver the wide range of existing events, whilst researching and devising innovative and imaginative new events as a means of raising both funds and the profile of the hospice.
  • To source and purchase promotional goods and materials to effectively support and enhance events and campaigns and to contribute to marketing of goods actually and digitally.
  • To be responsible for effective sourcing, marketing and management of the Christmas Campaign and associated actual and digital retail sales.
  • Support the development of innovative practices to ensure efficient and effective methods of generating income, including the use and development of the Donorflex database.
  • Contribute to ensuring that Derian House meets all relevant statutory requirements and industry standards in relation to income generation, including those of the Institute of Fundraising Code of Practice and any amendments thereof, the Charity Commission, the Gambling Commission, the Information Commissioners Office and the new Fundraising Regulator.
  • Network and collaborate with other organisationswhose aim is to support and promote a collaborative approach to children’s palliative and end of life care, including other children’s hospices and Together for Short Lives.
  • Act as an ambassador for Derian House, including, but not confined to; undertaking speaking engagements, acting as a spokesperson on specific topics, attending Derian House events in addition to in house fundraising events, and attending networking events and conferences.

Strategic Management

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the income generation strategy.
  • Collaborate in ensuring that each element of the income generation programme is carefully, considered, evaluated and accompanied by a business case and budgeted plan across all income streams and in association with relevant managers and teams.
  • Develop and negotiate sound contracts including those with suppliers, partners and contractors in conjunction with the relevant members of the Senior Management Team.
  • Actively support partnership working to benefit the wider needs of patients and local communities
  • Work positively within the framework of delegation set by the CEO including Derian House governance structures, policies and working arrangements
  • Maintain the high profile of the hospice, represent the organisation and coordinate others to do so, create trust and confidence in Derian House.
  • Lead by example to promote professional attitudes valued by Derian House to enhance a positive culture of encouragement, innovation, achievement and excellence
  • Enhance good communication, provide feedback on performance and lessons learned
  • Keep professionally updated and encourage a culture of learning and continuous improvement

  • Ensure effective communication including the dissemination of information accurately and timely to support effective team working.
  • Act at all times as an ambassador for the organisation and maintain positive and effective communication both internally and externally in representing the service offered by the hospice.

  • Prepare and effectively manage budgets in conjunction with theFundraising Consultantand the Finance Manager.

  • Develop a PR strategy in conjunction with the CEO, Fundraising Consultant and the Comms Officer (including personal rapport with local media) to maximise editorial exposure and continually raise the Derian House profile across the area. Facilitate opportunities in association with the rest of the Fundraising Team, and the Comms Officer for all hospice teams to promote Derian House.
