Dear Ladies andGentlemen,

In the name of the organizing committee I thank You who have already registered for the conference with a theme proposal abstracts, for other interested researchers I just wanted to inform You that the registration deadline has been prolonged and kindlyaskto submit the attached registration form with the title and abstract (approximately 150 - 200 words) of the presentation by 15 April 2012 to participate atthe 29th conference of the International Association for Scandinavian Studies (IASS) under the title

“Literature and Law”,

which will be held

in Riga and Daugavpils from the 7th till the 11th of August 2012.

The conferenceis organized bythe Department of Scandinavian Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia in co-operation with the corresponding study centre of the University of Daugavpils(regional university in the eastern part of Latvia, close to the border withLithuania and Belorussia).

The thematic spectrum of scientific reports expects to include a wide range of aspects on this topical issue.

The prescribedtheme one could examine bothinterdisciplinary–for instance, with a possible insight into
¤mutual relations between literatureand legislation,
¤position of detectiveandcrime fictionfrom thesocio-anthropological
viewpoint,
andimmanentliterary andculture scientific as well-with a widepanorama oftrends andmeetingpoints
¤within the individual writings and literatures inScandinaviawith
specializing incrime fictionandcrime novels,
¤between the Nordicliteraturesof thesamegenre,
¤betweenthe Scandinaviancrime fictionand itsvarious reception and
translation aspectsoutside the Nordic countries,
¤byfilm versions ofdetective and crime fictionworks.

Other –related – research topics are welcome as well.

With financial support from the Swedish Institute the Swedish author IngerFrimansson has been invited as guest speaker at this conference.

In the rather long history of IASS’ existence (since 1956) it will be the first time that the conference is going to be held in one of Baltic countries, likewise – for the first time that two universities with their academic and infrastructural capacity will organize it together.

Submission of presentation and application form:

The application form with the title and summary (approx. 150-200 words) of the presentation (20 minutes + 10 minutes for discussion) should be sent until April 15, 2012 (please refer page 5 of this document)by e-mail:

Conference Fee and Payments:

The conference fee is: 150,- EUR. It includes: coffee breaks, lunch,
transportation (by bus or train) on the route Riga-Daugavpils.
Banquet on Saturday, August 11th costs 25,- EUR.
The total cost if you want to participate in the banquet: 175,- EUR.
