CHSP’s Online RN to BSN Program Ranked Fifth in Nation by Best College Reviews

According to Best College Reviews, the OHIO College of Health Sciences and Professions’ RN to BSN program is not only online, it's on target. The organization recently ranked the program fifth in the nation on its 2015 listing of the best online RN to BSN programs. The rankings were based on affordability, flexibility and academics.

Established in 2009, the program has seen robust growth. With approximately 5,000 students currently enrolled and more than 5,000 alumni, the program is now one of the largest in the nation and has students enrolled from as far away as California and Florida.

Deborah Henderson, director of the College’s School of Nursing, believes an important component of the program’s success is its flexibility.

“RN to BSN programs are typically taken by nurses who are already employed as RNs and the fully online program at OHIO fits well into their busy lives and schedules,” Henderson said.

There are eight program start dates yearly, so RNs can get started at the best time of the year for them. All classes are offered in a five-week format and students are able to complete the program in two years or less.

College of Health Sciences and Professions Dean Randy Leite expects the program to continue growing into the foreseeable future.

“I am very proud of the fact that we’ve helped so many nurses to enhance their education. We are continuing to form partnerships with hospitals, healthcare organizations and community colleges that will allow us to make the program accessible to even more nurses in the future,” he said.

Alumna Paula Doan, who completed the program in 2011, is now employed as a nurse liaison at HCR Manor Care, a skilled nursing care facilities company that operates more than 300 rehabilitation centers nationwide. She said that the program was a good fit for her due to its affordability and convenience.

“When I decided to start my BSN coursework, I was already juggling family and work, and was employed at Mt. Carmel and Dublin Methodist Hospitals in same-day surgery. The online program didn’t force me to commute to classes at all. The pace is up to you, and you’re not tied to being in a class at a certain time. Plus, the instructors are wonderful about being accessible via email. I would be doing my schoolwork at 10 p.m. on a Saturday night, after my kids were in bed, and had instructors return my emails at that hour.”

Doan also said having an Ohio University BSN degree has helped her achieve her career goals.

“Obtaining my BSN allowed me to go into administration, which I couldn’t have done otherwise, and since Ohio University is highly regarded in the world of healthcare, you have a degree that’s instantly recognized. I’m definitely proud to be a Bobcat, and I would recommend the online program to anyone,” she said.

The Ohio University online RN to BSN program is fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
