Ecology Unit EXAM Study Guide

I.  Introduction—your ecology unit exam will draw upon information from three chapters in your textbook, a Pacific Northwest Case Study exercise and two formal labs.

II.  Textbook Resources:

a.  Chapter 3, Sections 1, 2, and 3: Levels of organization; producers; feeding relationships; ecological pyramids; cycles of matter; nutrient limitation.

b.  Chapter 4 Section 2: Biotic and abiotic factors; niche; community interactions; ecological succession.

c.  Chapter 5 Sections 1 and 2: Features of populations; population growth limiting factors; density and density independent factors.

d.  TO DO: Review the vocabulary for each section. Review completed textbook worksheets and/or take-home quizzes.

III.  Case Study: Review your notes on the four case study articles. There is at least one question per reading on the exam.

IV.  Labs: The Heat Loss and Acid Rain labs were designed to give you experience setting up, conducting and concluding experiment on ecology topics. Understand WHY the experiments were set-up the way they were and review correct answers to lab question.

V.  General: Review ALL daily BioACTS for understanding; review ALL completed homework in your lab journal; review vocabulary; review Ecology unit quizzes.
