CHIEF INSPECTOR PROMOTION PROCESS – REF: 2943

We are looking to appointa number of Chief Inspectors and Detective Chief Inspectorsacross our organisation. We would welcome applications from substantive Inspectors and Detective Inspectors (on promotion to the rank of Chief Inspector) and substantive Chief Inspectors and Detective Chief Inspectors on lateral transfer.

The process for those applying for promotion will be as follows:-

STAGE 1

You will be asked to complete a condensedapplication form, which is a shorter version of the standard application form.

You will not be required to submit evidence of competency against the Policing Professional Framework (PPF-PQ’s) on your application form as the information submitted at Stage 1 will not form part of the assessment process.

Please note applications will not be accepted from the following:-

  • Officers with an outstanding disciplinary sanction.
  • Officers who are currently being managed for unsatisfactory performance (UPP).
  • Officers with a Bradford Factor in excess of 192 unless their application is supported in line with the Attendance Management Policy.
  • Officers who have been in substantive rank for less than 12 months.

Applications will need to be signed off as supported or not supported byyour first and second line managers. This should be done in consultation with you.

The closing date for all completed application (supported/not supported) is midday Monday 20th June 2016.

Only supported applications will progress to Stage 2. Unsupported applications will requirea development plan to be created to address the specific areas for development ahead of any subsequent process.

The information submitted at Stage1 will not form part of the assessment process.

STAGE 2

Dependent upon the number of applications received you may be required to undertake an online sift process prior to being invited to attend the assessment centre. If used the sift will approximately 1 ½ hours and will be hosted within our Learning and Development Department at Wheatstone House, Quedgeley.

The sift exercise will be independently marked by fully trained assessors. Those meeting the required standard through the online sift will progress to Stage 3.

If required, the online sift sessions will be held between Monday and Friday w/c 27 June 2016. Exact times and dates to be confirmed if we use the sift tool. We will notify you as soon as we can after the close date xx if we are going to use the sift stage.

STAGE 3

Stage 3 is an assessment process. The exercises used for the assessment process will be based on the Policing Professional Framework – Personal Qualities (PPF-PQ’s).

The assessment centre will consist of a presentation exercise, a briefing exercise and an interview.

Both the online sift and the assessment process has been designed in conjunction with Pertemps Professional Development. All the assessors used as part of the online sift and assessment process will be trained, experienced and competent. They will undertake specific training in the exercises to be used for this specific process. Some assessors may be external to the organisation but will have been fully trained and accredited by Pertemps Professional Development.

The assessment process will run week commencing Monday 18 July 2016. Assessments will be undertaken from Monday 18 July to Wednesday 20th July 2016 (inclusive). Due to the complexity of the process, other dates for assessment will not be available.

If you are applying on lateral transfer you will not be required to undertake the full assessment centre, you will be invited to attend an interview.
