§ APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM

Submit application and documentation of the following:

  1. A minimum of three semesters of study (or equivalent of 48 credits).
  2. Passing scores on a PDE required exam for reading, writing, and math proficiency.
  3. Completion of two college math courses with a grade of C or above
  4. Completion of three college English courses with a grade of C or above: ENG101 (unless waived), ENG102 and a literature course
  5. Minimum GPA of 2.8.

§§ APPLY FOR ADMISSION TO THE PROFESSIONAL SEMESTER

Submit application in accordance with the screening and retention policies and guidelines for teacher certification programs, including:

  1. C or higher on all education and content courses required for certification (must be completed at AlbrightCollege)
  2. Minimum GPA of 3.0
  3. Passing score on the Physics Content Knowledge PRAXIS test
  4. Letter of Admission to Teacher Certification Program on file

ATTENTION SECONDARY CERTIFICATION CANDIDATES:

You have received an advising chart for Albright College’s Education Program leading to Teacher Certification in Secondary Education (Grades 7 - 12). This is a 9-semester program of study.

Admission to Albright’s Teacher Certification Program

Application for admission to Albright’s Certification Program will be submitted at the conclusion of the third semester of study. Along with the application, please submit documentation that the following requirements have been completed:

  • Passing scores on a PDE required exam for reading, writing, and math proficiency
  • Completion of two college math courses with a grade of C or above
  • Completion of three college English courses with a grade of C or above: ENG101 (unless waived), ENG102 and a literature course
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8

Course Load

The Secondary Education Program of study includes some 5-course semesters. You must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to take 5 courses at Albright. If you carry the normal 4-course load, you will need to take summer courses or add additional semesters to complete your course of study.

Grade Requirement

Candidates must earn a C or above in all courses required for certification.

Pre-student Teaching Field Experiences

Some education courses will include required field experiences. Admission into the professional semester of student teaching cannot be granted until all of those required experiences (levels 1 – 3) have been completed.

The Professional Semester of Student Teaching

Admission to the professional semester of student teaching will be granted by The Teacher Education Committee when the following requirements have been completed:

  • Satisfactory completion of pre-student teaching field experiences (levels 1 – 3).
  • Completion of all pre-student teaching courses required for certification with a C or higher.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.
  • Passing Scores on required Exams.
  • Recommendation from Education Department faculty.
