Central District Report September 2011

Several units are getting out and about to various shows; Blackbrook Guides went to the circus as part of Fire Safety badge, and Holway & Blackbrook Rainbows are visiting the Theatre to see “High School Mania” with the Guide Shop money helping to subsidise. Holway Brownies will be watching the pantomime in January courtesy of the Guide Shop too! Many thanks expressed!

It’s not just the theatre that units have been visiting though;several have joined with other units both in and out of the District to do something exciting out and about. Both Blackbrook Brownies went to Pizazz and had an exhilarating time! Blackbrook Guides had a wet day at Wimbleball Lake courtesy of the Guide Shop money – thank you. 22nd Blackbrook Brownies had a fun (if not wet) day out at Woodlands last weekend with St Peter’s Guides. Holway Rainbows visited Worle & Milton District Guides for the day when they camped at Huish Woods over the summer, the Guides set up an easter egg hunt for the Rainbows and shared some campfire songs. Silver Street Guides are just finalising details for their Harry Potter themed holiday at Somermead during October half term – a joint event with Catherine Bell’s Guide unit in Keynsham so Catherine is still showing her presence in the District! 10th Blackbrook Brownies are planning a day at Paignton Zoo with the potential of sleepover, in October.

Holway Rainbows are now fully up and running by themselves, Angela and Jo having had a very busy holiday finalising their ALQ! Congratulations to both (and also to Becky Edwards who completed at the same time). They are moving from Monday to Thursday nights from November and will loose Debbie and Neely as unit helpers as Debbie has a baby and Neely’s daughter moves up to Brownies, but gain Su whose daughter has moved up to Brownies but is still keen to start helping! Thanks to Debbie and Neely for all they have done, and thanks to Su for all she will do!

Congratulations to several in the District… two marriages: Becky Craig has now become Edwards, and Gemma Brinkley is now Adams, and we also welcome anadorable babyboy for Becky, with one expected in November for Debbie. We have also said goodbye to Paula Kedward who leaves a big gap that will be hard to fill at both Blackbrook Rainbows and Brownies – thanks for all you have done over the last 4 years!
