INTERN JOB DESCRIPTIONS

PROPS ASSISTANT

As one of the two props interns, your job mostly consists of assisting the Prop Master and Assistant Prop Master in preparing the props, dressing and furniture for the season’s productions. In the beginning of the season, rehearsal and preliminary props are pulled and the general plan of what must be built, modified, or bought is made (this is a good time to discuss your personal skill set to ensure you end up with projects you can complete well and efficiently. As the season progresses, each day you will be assigned tasks depending on what is needed. Once performances start, these conditions will include repairs and maintenance. Some projects will last the day or less, others may span the week. It’s important to be flexible and be able to drop a project, perform what the shop may more urgently ask of you, and return to what you were doing originally.

DUTIES:

Include, but are not limited to:

-Pull and organize props

-Go to Denver warehouse to pull large props such as furniture and set pieces

-Build props – including specific projects for each intern to complete from start to finish

-Modify existing props

-Shop for material, furniture, and props

-Clean and maintain the Prop Shop

-Reorganize the Prop Shop, as needed

-Maintain props during show run

-Run crew for one of the One Acts

DESIRED SKILLS:

-Able to lift heavy objects

-Basic knowledge of tools and safety procedures

-Basic skills in multiple (but not all) of the following areas – carpentry, sewing, molding/casting, drafting, Photoshop, metal work, sculpting, painting, furniture repair, beading, distressing, papier-mâché, foam carving, upholstery, etc.

-A strong willingness to learn and be mentored with new skills and techniques

-Background experience in theater

-A positive attitude and ability to receive constructive or corrective criticism

-An open mind and a respectful attitude towards the needs of the shows

-Ability to multi-task and think outside the box to tackle challenging projects

-Not afraid to ask questions and make mistakes (and learn from those mistakes)

-Help other colleagues as needed

-Proactive and always looking for the next task

-Creative and enthusiastic

-Able to keep work space clean and neat/clean up after oneself and respect shared tools
