PSAT/NMSQT / Summative / Provides students and educators with the chance to check in on progress toward college and career readiness and success/both serve as an excellent way for students to preview and practice for the SAT, because they are tightly aligned with the new SAT/used as the official route for entry into the National Merit Scholarship Program

PERT / Diagnostic / Determines accurate course placement based on the student's skills and abilities, it is aligned with the Postsecondary Readiness Competencies identified by Florida faculty as necessary for success in entry-level college credit coursework/used to drive instruction and as a concordant score for the ALG 1 EOC
NNAT 2 / Ability Test / A nonverbal, culturally neutral assessment of general ability that is ideal for use with a diverse student population/used for identifying gifted and talented students
3rd Grade Alternate Test / Summative / Measures students’ strengths and weaknesses in reading/used to drive and individualize instruction/used as an alternate assessment for grade 3 students who score level 1 on the state reading test
Glossary
Ability / Also called aptitude tests, they are generally standardized, these tests can be used to test a variety of skills – mental aptitude, problem solving, knowledge of a particular subject, reasoning ability, general intelligence
Diagnostic / Measures students' understanding of a subject area or skills base
Formative / Used to monitor student learningto provide ongoing feedback that can be used by instructors to improve instruction
Screening Test / Used to gather information regarding students’ overall development and/or skills they have obtained
Summative / Used toevaluate student learningat the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark, Information from summative assessments can be used formatively when students or teachers use it to guide their activities and instruction
