CASING OPERATIONS SAFETY POLICY
PROCEDURE
HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH INSTALLING CASING TOOLS
a. Slips and falls from the work platform and/or stabbing board.
b. Back injuries from lifting and carrying the tools.
c. Being struck by or caught between tubulars and other objects during movement.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WITH INSTALLING CASING TOOLS
a. Use fall protection while installing equipment in the derrick.
b. Use mechanical equipment such as the rig floor winch or other powered equipment to handle heavy casing tools.
c. Be aware of the activity being performed on the rig floor.
d. Use proper hand and foot placement to avoid pinch points.
e. Stay clear of suspended, hoisted or moving loads.
HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH RUNNING CASING INTO THE HOLE
a. Being struck by, getting caught between or pinched by the power tongs, casing or other equipment.
b. Being struck by or caught between tubulars and other objects during movement
c. Slips and falls from the work platform and/or stabbing board
d. Being struck by falling objects.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WITH RUNNING CASING INTO THE HOLE
a. Stand clear of suspended, hoisted, or moving loads.
b. Be aware of the activities being performed on the rig floor.
c. Conduct pre-job safety meetings as a reminder to wear the proper PPE, following rules and procedures.
d. Encourage teamwork and communication.
e. Require the casing stabber to wear the appropriate fall protection equipment.
f. Secure all items used by the casing stabber overhead with a safety line.
HAZARDS ASSOCIATED WITH INSTALLING CASING ACCESSORIES
a. Back strain.
b. Exposure to hazardous materials, especially around the thread lock compounds.
c. Getting fingers caught between tools and casing tongs with manually moving guide shoe or float collar.
d. Dropping heavy tools and accessories on feet.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS WITH INSTALLING CASING ACCESSORIES
a. Use the proper PPE.
b. Refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet with questions regarding hazardous substances.
c. Utilize winch, air hoist, or other powered equipment to handle heavy casing equipment in order to reduce the potential for back injuries.
