INTER-SERVICES NETBALL TRAINING & CHAMPIONSHIPS 27 FEB – 7 MAR 15

1.  Introduction. Throughout the season the Army Netball Association (ANA) has conducted monthly training sessions, including fixtures against strong civilian opposition, in the build up to the 2015 Inter-Services (IS) netball championships. This year the Royal Navy are hosts for the championship, which will be held at HMS Nelson, Portsmouth, PO1 3HH during the period 4 – 7 Mar 15.

2.  The players listed at Annex A have been selected to represent the Army at the IS championships. All players have been confirmed as being available for the period 27 Feb – 7 Mar 15. With the exception of those marked with an *, these players are to engage with their CoC and inform the Team Manager of their availability ASAP.

3.  Dress and Equipment. Players are to wear issued ANA tracksuits, ANA hoodies and a red t-shirt/vest during the training and championships and black shorts and red ANA t-shirts/vest during training. Players are to bring white socks and issued ARMY knicker-shorts which are to be worn underneath the match dresses; the dresses are to be issued on a daily basis by the kit manager.

4.  Travel. This letter is the authority for the individuals listed above to travel at public expense to this approved ANA training session weekend and IS championship, in accordance with 2014DIN10-030. All travel arrangements are to be by the cheapest and most economical means and coordinated so individuals travelling from the same or near unit locations travel together.

5.  Parking. All cars will need a car pass for the duration of their stay at HMS Nelson. It is to be noted that due to building work, parking is severely limited near to the gym; players are advised to walk from the accommodation to the gym, which is less than a mile, using the HMS Nelson Gate on Queens street, PO1 3HH. Directions for this route can be found at Annex B.

6.  Championship Format. The Team Manager and Coach are to attend a briefing at HMS Nelson gymnasium on Wed 4 Mar 15 at 0800, all other timings can be found at Annex C. The Team Manager is to prepare a blank team list which is to be handed in to the officials’ table 10 mins before each match.

7.  Movement, tracking and part 1 orders. All players are to ensure that they are moved and tracked on JPA by their CHRA’s from their home units to Aldershot for the period 27 Feb – 3 Mar and to Portsmouth for the period 4 – 7 Mar 15. All players should also ensure that their name appears on their Regimental part 1 orders as representing the Army for the period 27 Mar – 7 Mar 15 for insurance purposes.

8.  Transit Accommodation and Messing.

a.  Training Fri 27 Feb – AM Tue 3 Mar 15. Accommodation during the training period will be booked by the Team Manager for those that requested it, if you are unsure if you requested accommodation players are to speak to the Team Manager.

b.  Championships PM Tue 3 Mar – AM Sat 7 Mar 15. Accommodation and messing for the championships has been reserved for all players at HMS Temeraire Sports Accommodation, Portsmouth, PO1 2HB. Accommodation for the Coach has been booked at the Royal Maritime Club, 75 – 80 Queen Street, Portsmouth PO1 3HS, this is to be paid for at the time and claimed back with expenses.

9.  Visits by president ANA and other VIPs. ANA’s president, Lt Gen Gregory, will be visiting the championships at some stage. The ANA chairman is currently writing to Regimental Colonels informing them of those players from their cap badges that have been selected to represent the Army. Additionally the chairman will invite the COs’ of all the selected players, therefore when players are not playing they will be expected to host our guests.

10.  Army colours and presentations. The secretary will confirm with the ANA captain the names of players eligible for Army colours; these will be presented by the ANA chairman at the conclusion of the final match on the afternoon of Fri 7 Mar 15. The chairman will also present trophies for the ANA Player of the Tournament for both the Open and Development squads and Most Improved ANA Player of the Season.

11.  Selection for the Combined Services (CS) netball squad. Two selectors will be attending the duration of the championships to identify players from all three services to represent the CS in 2015. Any member of the ANA squad who wishes to be considered for selection for the CS squad should ensure that they are available for all of the fixtures in 2015 prior to identifying themselves to the CS secretary (Capt Sam James RA) at the start of the championship. The dates for the 2015 season are 16/17 May, 20/21 Jun, 11/12 Jul & 15/16 Aug.

12.  IS celebration dinner. The IS dinner starts at 1930 on Fri 6 Mar 15, all attendees are to be at the Senior Rates Mess, HMS Nelson by 1900. Dress for the evening is lounge suits or cocktail dress (knee length or below) with shoulders covered. The menu for the evening can be found at Annex D; personnel who require a vegetarian option or have any other dietary requirements are to inform the ANA team manager NLT 1 Mar 15. The ANA will be subsidising the IS Dinner and the costs to ANA players will be as follows:

Pte/LCpl - £23.00; Cpl / SNCO - £28.00; 2Lt / Lt - £28.00; WO / Capt / Maj - £35.00; Civilians - £35.00

The ANA Team Manager is requested to collect all payments from the ANA players attending the IS dinner, for crediting to the ANA fund, prior to the start of the IS championships.
