Campus Life
Student life at Hunter College is exceptionally vibrant. Students govern more than 100 clubs and organizations, contribute to four student publications, study all over the world, participate in research programs and internships, and represent the Hunter Hawks on 18 championship-winning athletic teams. Special programs, lectures, performances, sports events, seminars, and other educational, cultural, and academic opportunities abound throughout the year.

Four major buildings house both undergraduate and graduate programs in the arts, sciences, and education. Among the facilities are a nine-story library with full Internet access; a language laboratory; and sophisticated academic computing services. The Hunter College Sportsplex, which has five gymnasia, is one of the premiere sports centers in the metropolitan area.

The bookstore stocks required, supplementary, and recommended textbooks (new and used), regulation school supplies, special course requirements and other academic and nonacademic items, including clothing and gifts. The bookstore processes orders for textbooks and clothing/gifts online at and accepts most forms of payment, including book vouchers. The store also purchases used student textbooks up to 50% back at the end of each term.

CHILDREN’S LEARNING CENTER

An all-day early care and education program for children of Hunter College students. The preschool program serves ages 2.5 to 6. The school-age program serves children ages 6-12. The Center follows the academic calendar; including Saturdays. It also offers services during both Summer sessions, closing earlier and not including Saturdays. Professional counselors assist students with personal and emotional difficulties that may interfere with academic progress and success. In addition to short-term counseling, the office provides crisis intervention and referral services. The hours of operation are Monday -Thursday 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. and Friday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Wellness Services
Wellness Services strives to reduce health-related barriers to students’ personal and academic success through activities in general health education, disease prevention, and intervention.

Provides healthcare and health education information and resources. Walk-in services include vaccinations, immunizations, HIV and blood pressure screens. A nurse practitioner and nurses from the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing are available for general healthcare.

Off-Campus Care
When necessary, staff can refer students to the Ryan-Nena clinic for low cost services or to local hospitals including New York Presbyterian, and Lenox Hill.

Serves the specialized needs of Hunter College's international students (F-1, J-1) and their dependents. Services include comprehensive immigration counseling and the communication of relevant information to students and staff through workshops and orientation programs. The office ensures Hunter’s compliance with all U.S. immigration regulations and procedures, and is one of the College's liaisons to the Departments of State and Homeland Security. It also provides help with naturalization and assists students with travel issues and cultural adjustment.

Your Access to Computing at Hunter:
All official college correspondence, both administrative and academic, will go to your Hunter email address, which you received prior to arriving on campus.
Hunter NETID:
This is the username (and password) you use to access services hosted specifically at Hunter, for the Hunter community only. These services include access to the wireless network, PAC terminals, and OneCard. Your NetID is also used for your Hunter email address. All official communications will be sent to this address.
Public Computing PACS & Labs:
There are three Public Computer Labs equipped with Macs and PCs: 10th floor North Building, 4th floor Thomas Hunter Hall and E015 at the Brookdale campus. PACs (Public Access Computers) are web-browser terminal kiosks, and are placed in convenient locations around the Hunter campuses.

The CUNY Portal Id:
Many of the online academic resources you will use at Hunter are hosted at the City University of New York (CUNY), rather than on the Hunter campus. To use most of these services, you will need a CUNY Portal ID. To obtain an ID, register at CUNY’s website at You will be asked to select a username, and we suggest you use your Hunter NetID (or your Hunter email address) and password to reduce the number of IDs and passwords to remember.
eSIMS:
Use the electronic Student Information Management System (eSIMS) to register for classes, check grades, view transcripts, and see your current bursar bill. To access eSIMS, you will need to log in to the CUNY Portal with your CUNY Portal ID and password.

The Chanin Language Center is a state-of-the-art multi-media foreign language learning facility. It includes two independent study labs equipped with 66 multi-media workstations. Students can supplement their language learning from the elementary to the advanced level by working with computerized study modules, CD-ROMs and digitized audio-visual programs based on textbooks and/or lab manuals. The Jacqueline Grennan Wexler (Main) Library located in the East Building. Your Hunter OneCard serves as your library card and should be activated at the Circulation Desk at one of the libraries. The collections include approximately 800,000 print volumes, over 2,000 periodical subscriptions, access to over 25,000 e-journals and newspapers, over 40,000 digital images, and subscriptions to over 125 databases, many with full-text articles. In addition to books, students may borrow laptops to be used in the library, videos, CDs, and other materials.

The OASIS should be the first stop for students inquiring about their financial aid. OASIS Service Representatives are available to students in 217 Hunter North. ONECARD

All entrances to the 68th Street campus are equipped with turnstiles or scanners that operate with the Hunter OneCard, much like MetroCards on subways and buses. One swipe gives you access to the campus. You also can use your Hunter ID card for a host of campus services, such as printing, copying, dining, using vending machines, and paying library fees. To put money on your card and check your account balance visit the OneCard website or at any of the Account Management Centers (AMC) around campus. To obtain a new card, replace a lost or stolen card, or for general assistance, you can visit the OneCard Office -- Monday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Visitors Center is located in the West Building Lobby and is open Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. -10:30 p.m. Visitors Center Associates, recognizable by their purple vests, are available to help you find your way around campus, direct you to the appropriate office or department, and help you get a pass to enter the building. Please note that the West Building Lobby entrance is accessible at all times. All other entrances to the 68th Street campus are closed from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am every night.
