BRITISH UNIVERSITIES VOLLEYBALL FINALS INFORMATION

Date:Championship Final 8’s 12 - 14 March 2004

Shield Semi Finals and Finals13 – 14 March 2004

Venue:New Sports Hall, University of Loughborough

Directions:Loughborough is situated at J23 of the M1, and the university is about 1.5 miles from the motorway. From the J23 follow the A512 towards Loughborough. You will pass the Quality Hotel on your left, go straight over at the roundabout. At the next roundabout turn right. The main entrance to the university is 70m on the right. Security will direct you to the appropriate car park for the New Sports Hall.

Loughborough rail station is ten minutes by taxi.

Report:All teams must report at least 20 minutes before they are due to play or officiate. All Captains are asked to report to the BUSA Representatives, Lenny Barry or Adrienne McGraa, upon arrival. Lenny can be contacted on 07940 530157, and Adrienne on 07940 540244 on the day.

Time:See attached schedule of play.

A captains meeting will take place on Friday 12 March at 5pm in the New Sports Hall. All Championship teams must be represented. Shield team captains should report to Lenny Barry or Adrienne McGraa upon arrival on the Saturday for a briefing.

Kit:Problems have been experienced in the past with standard of clothing worn by players. Captains are required to ensure that all their players wear kit that conforms to National Governing Body regulations and recognise that non-compliance could lead to disqualification. Captains are required to complete and sign a declaration stating that they are aware of this regulation and send to BUSA office prior to the Tournament.

Warm up:Teams must provide their own practice balls, for which neither Loughborough University nor BUSA can be held responsible. Please make sure that you do not remove balls that do not belong to you. Match balls will be provided.

Warm up on court is limited to five minutes general and five minutes shared net for the Championship, and ten minutes general and ten minutes shared net for the Shield. Empty courts are not to be used to warm up or practice.

Officials:A first referee will always be provided and a second official wherever possible. Where required teams may have to provide a second official. Teams will be required to provide a scorer and at least two competent linespeople.

Accommodation:Players, their clubs or Athletic Unions are responsible for all travel, accommodation and subsistence costs.

Sports Hall:The New Sports Hall has a sprung wooden floor that is unsealed. Thus it is very vulnerable to damage from outdoor shoes, bags, grit etc. Under no circumstances are outdoor shoes, bags, food or drink to be taken onto the floor.

Place bags in lockers or on the perimeter boarding. Security Stewards will summarily eject those who do not comply. This may lead to both disqualification and a fine of £100 from the University.

Members of teams who break this rule will be reported by the stewards to the Tournament Director. Anyone being warned for a second time will be suspended from play. A team having two players warned may be disqualified.

General:BUSA record their appreciation of the assistance provided by the University of Loughborough, the Centre for Coaching and Recreation and all the referees who have given up their time to help us.
