Beginner Lessons

-The committee discussed ways in which we can assist/encourage beginners to take lessons on the weekends away to ensure that everyone is at a basic, safe standard. Ideas presented;

  • Sell lessons with weekend tickets
  • Improve communications to beginners about lesson discounts

-Action - James to liaise with Charlotte for tickets and Si for Comms

Dropbox

-Si has created a Dropbox account for all committee members. This will allow collaborative working, immediate access to member lists and a repository for documents including standardised template responses to membership and ‘friend’ enquiries.

Christmas Function

-The committee debated the day of the Christmas function (Friday or Saturday) and a potential change of location.

-Action - Charlotte will conduct a review of options and present back to the Committee for a decision.

Water Safety/First Aid/Surf Awareness Sessions

-Freddie brought an idea to the committee to run a group of hour long sessions with the aim of making surfing safer and members more knowledgeable. The following topics are considered relevant;

  • Surf Etiquette, Oceanography, Forecasting, First Aid (provided by St Johns to avoid liability issues), different types of waves, surf safety.

-It is envisaged that these would run on 3 week long blocks prior to meetings at the Pump house and that these should be run at least twice a year.

-Action – Identify a suitable location (Nova Scotia suggested), Freddie to develop syllabus, liaise with St Johns to provide first aid training. Once organised, Si to communicate sessions via Facebook and Email.

Membership Costs

-The committee discussed the current membership costs and whether this is sufficient to maintain the funds of the club with our outgoings.

-Action – Mia to review accounts and present options at next meeting.

Family Weekends

-The committee discussed the issue of the Family weekends and ensuring that all participants remained safe and had as much fun as possible.

-It was suggested that a volunteer is requested to act as a ‘Families Liaison’ for these weekends in order to assist family attendees.

-Action – Committee to ask for a volunteer prior to the next Family weekend.

Date of next meeting

-1930hrs on 17 Mar 16 at the Rose of Denmark.
