2.  Know all about how French fits into our world.
Grading (District Policy)
Major and Minor Assessments make up 60% of the grade (30 each).
o  At least two major assessments (Test or Project) will be given each marking period along with a Quarterly Assessment.
o  Project Based Assessments and/or Performance Tasks and/or Skill Demonstration may be administered/assessed in courses where pencil/paper assessments are not always feasible.
o  Minor Assessments can include small projects, labs, quizzes(minimum of 6), performance tasks, and/or demonstration of a skill.
There will be a test or a quiz each week. You will receive 2-3 days notice for a quiz and at least a week for a test. You will be given time to review in class but it is still your responsibility to study on your own or with friends. Students who receive a 75% or less on a test or quiz have the opportunity to retake it as many times as they need to. The two grades will then be averaged. If a student fails or receives a low grade the second time, they will be given an opportunity to come in for extra help and then take the quiz or test for a 3rd time. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to re-take a test or quiz so that they have enough time in case they need extra time.
Classwork and Participation 20%
o  Good citizenship and classroom behavior are part of classwork.
o  Reasonable Student effort is rewarded in the form of EUROS.
Reasonable Student Effort can be defined as anything listed below:
You will receive Euros for writing answers on the board, finishing warm-ups first, participating by raising your hand, following instructions, helping to collect folders, passing out papers, reading a loud, sharing projects, classwork done using internet, and other positive things that will help our class. Other grades will include skits, oral presentations, written assignments, and projects done in class
It’ll cost ya!
1 euro – bathroom, pencil/pen, paper
2 euros – locker, extra copy of paper given out in class, trip to another class to get something you
forgot.
3 euros – when you interrupt a classmate you will owe them a small amount for talking while your classmate is talking.
5 euros – Shouting out, late to class
7 euros - disrupting class to the point that the teacher has to stop teaching to focus on you and your behavior.
Euros are EQUAL to points; each marking period you will be asked to give a REASONABLE EFFORT in class towards your grade. Marking Period 1 you will be asked to give a REASONABLE EFFORT 75 times (that’s 75 euros). Any amount over 75 is worth extra credit =) and each marking period the set amount of euros increases. Students will be encouraged to speak more in the target language FRENCH (each marking period the number changes)* Amount is subject to change based on class size.
*If you are absent due to illness/hospitalization and/or approved vacation it will be taken into account and Euros will be added at the end of the marking period (2 per day)
Lateness are not part of the grading policy, but not being in class DOES affect you not hearing or using the information. You have ___ minutes to get to class. It is YOUR responsibility to be in the classroom and seated by the time the bell rings. Learn to get a pass from the teacher you were last with if you stayed in another room or come with a pass from an office you stopped at on the way. Students who are chronically late to class will be given an office referral. Chronic lateness will necessitate referral to a building principal and/or guidance counselor and a conference with student and/parent is recommended. The attendance secretary should also mail late letters to the student’s home.
STUDENTS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR HOLDING ONTO THEIR EUROS. I WILL COLLECT THEM EVERY 3-5 DAYS.
Weekly Folder Checks (Homework grade) – 10%
Folders will be a collection (portfolio) of all HW assignments from the week. Homework will be checked for COMPLETION (not accuracy) the day it is due and then will be given a final grade at the end of the week. Students who do not have their HW the day it is checked will have the opportunity to do it as we go over it IN CLASS and place it in their folder for SOME credit at the end of the week. The following is how I grade your homework:
o  Fully completed – X = 5 points in your folder
o  ¾ completed - T = 4 points in your folder
o  ½ completed - / = 3.5 points in your folder
o  Less then ½ ___ = 2.5 points in your folder if you then complete homework by folder check.
Each week a student has the ability to earn up to 20 points per folder (HW) Folders
will be taken up to 10 days late (-5%) each day; Any item after 10 days will
receive an automatic 45% and will not be eligible for more credit.
Quarterly Assessment 10%
o  Quarterly Assessments are administered four times per year near the end of each marking period. They are part of each marking period grade and will be administered in all courses.
o  Quarterly Assessments are cumulative for the marking period.
o  There are NO chances to retake quarterly assessments that are 75% or lesst
o  This test is given at the end of the marking period. Students will know their report card grades without the quarterly so they have an idea of where they stand.
