Lesson Objective:
Instructor becomes familiar with crew member:
A. Knowledge of aircraft instruments and systems, instrument scan, communication skills, task management, cockpit organization, radio communications, checklist usage, Jeppesen approach and en route charts, multi engine systems and procedures, FAR’s and IFR procedures.
B. Instrument flying skills to include: level flight; turns, climbs, descents; navigation, holding patterns, precision and non-precision approaches; missed approach procedures; partial panel instruments, and emergencies.
C. Instructor will determine who has the best “captain” skills and who has the best “FO” skills, thus determining who will occupy the appropriate seats in the King Air FTD for lesson number 2.
Preflight Discussion:
A. Instructor will go through and discuss this lesson and his/her goals.
B. Instructor will verify each individuals general knowledge of:
• Aircraft instruments and systems.
• IFR procedures.
• Checklist.
• Cockpit organization and flow pattern.
• FAA regulations.
• Jeppesen approach and en route charts.
Flight Skills:
Instructor evaluates each individuals skill at flying and controlling a multi engine aircraft:
A. Takeoff and landing.
B. Basic attitude instrument flying.
C. Straight and level; and turns, climbs, and descents.
D. Navigation using VOR, ADF, DME, and HSI.
E. Holding patterns.
F. Precision and non-precision approaches.
G. Radar vectoring.
H. Engine-out and emergencies.
Debrief:
Instructor evaluates each student:
A. Strengths and weaknesses.
B. How he/she feels they will best work together in a “crew environment”.
C. Who he/she feels will be flying in the left seat and who will be flying in the right seat.
D. What each/both students need to work on before their first session in the King Air FTD.
• One or both students may need another session in the Frasca 142. Instructor will supervise followup sessions in the Frasca 142 with appropriate Simulator Lab instructor.

Completion Standards:
The instructor has determined each crew members strengths and weaknesses and any areas needing improving on prior to the next lesson. Evaluation will be based on the instructors confidence level with each crew member based on the lesson objectives, preflight briefing, and flight skills as outlined under the “Flight Skills” heading. One or both crew members may need additional flight and/or ground training, for which the instructor will identify and help arrange through the course instructor.

Lesson Objective:
King Air cockpit familiarization. Each crew member will be able to identify all instruments, switches, and controls in the King Air FTD. Schematics should be included in the explaining of each systems operation.
Preflight Discussion:
A. Instructor will review any questions from the previous lesson.
B. Instructor will go through and discuss this lesson and his/her goals.
C. Instructor will evaluate each crew members general knowledge of:
• Cockpit layout.
• Electrical, fuel, pneumatic, and pressurization systems.
• Powerplant operations.
• Master warning system.
• Other systems as appropriate.
Flight Skills:
Instructor listens and assist each crew member in identifying and explaining
the different instrument, switchers, and controls in the King Air FTD. Each crew member should be able to discuss the basic operating principles of each system using the appropriate schematic.
A. Captain will explain what each instrument, switch, and control is:
• Seats.
• Fuel control panel.
• Pilots left and right sub panels.
• Pilots instrument panel.
• Annunciator panel.
• Control pedestal.
• Emergency gear extension handle.
B. FO will explain what each instrument, switch, and control is:
• FOs left and right sub panels.
• FOs instrument panel.
• Circuit breaker panel.
• Alternate static system panel.
• Overhead control panel.
• Oxygen control panel.
Debrief:
Instructor:
A. Evaluates crew members knowledge of the King Air cockpit.
B. Evaluates crew members knowledge of the King Air systems.
C. Reviews important topics discussed during the session.

Lesson Objective:
Crew members startup and shut down the King Air and make an introductory flight. CRM and flow patterns will be discussed and used to help introduce “crew coordination”, but are not a requirement of this lesson.
Preflight Discussion:
A. Instructor will review any questions from the previous lesson.
B. Instructor will go through and discuss this lesson and his/her goals.
C. Instructor will have crew members discuss the preflight, startup, and shut down procedures for the King Air.
• Checklist and appropriate schematics may be used to help explain the startup and shut down procedures.
• Instructor will assist in the explaining of the appropriate procedures, calls, crew member responsibilities, and instruments to watch and verify with.
Flight Skills:
A. By using the appropriate checklist the crew will startup the King Air trainer.
• Crew will use the expanded procedures found in the back of the King Air manual, Section IV, pages 4-7 [Before Engine Starting] to 4-12 [Before Takeoff (Runup)]. Do not do the section [Engine Starting (External Power)].
• Additional expanded procedures may be referenced in the King Air manual, Section IV, pages 4-18 to 4-29
B. By using the appropriate checklist the crew will shut down the King Air trainer.
• Crew will use the expanded procedures found in the back of the King Air manual, Section IV, page 4-17 [Shutdown and Securing] to 4-18 [Other Normal Procedures].
C. Several startups and shut downs will be completed, as appropriate, so that the crew develops a good understanding of the procedures and limitations associated with the King Air.
D. Upon successful completion of the startup and shut down procedures, the crew will take an introductory flight at the KHUF airport and vicinity.
• During takeoff, instructor will discuss the appropriate takeoff procedures (SOP calls and checklist usage), but crew utilization is not required at this point.
• During landing, instructor will discuss the appropriate landing procedures (SOP calls and checklist usage), but crew utilization is not required at this point.
• Instructor will determine the number of takeoffs and landings, associated flight maneuvers in the vicinity, and which crew member will be acting as PF/PNF.
A. Instructor listens and assist each crew member in the appropriate calls, procedures, and responsibilities in the startup and shut down procedures.
• No emergency procedures will be introduced at this time, unless instructor feels appropriate for the situation/crew.
• Proper use of checklist, flow patterns, calls, crew member responsibilities, and procedures is essential.
• Instructor will have each crew member act as PF for takeoffs, landings, and basic maneuvering in the KHUF area.
1. Standard takeoff SOPs and procedures is not required at this time.

Lesson Objective:
Crew members will complete a normal practice flight in the KHUF area.
Preflight Discussion:
A. Instructor will review any questions from the previous lesson.
B. Instructor will go through and discuss this lesson and his/her goals.
C. Crew will briefly explain startup and shut down procedures from the previous lesson.
D. Crew will discuss SOPs and checklist usage for a VFR flight in the local area.
• Obtaining clearance
• Taxi and takeoff
• Basic flight maneuvering (turns, climbs, descents, straight & level, traffic patterns, etc.)
• Landing clearance and landing.
E. Instructor will discuss appropriate aircraft maneuvering, King Air manual “Flight Maneuvering and Profiles” pages GEN-1 to GEN-21 with the crew.
Flight Skills:
Instructor listens and assist each crew member in the appropriate calls, procedures, and responsibilities in the startup, taxi, takeoff, maneuvering, landing, and shut down procedures.
A. All appropriate SOPs, checklist items, crew coordination, and flow patterns will be used.
• No emergency procedures will be introduced, unless deemed necessary by the instructor.
B. The startup checklist will be from the King Air manual, Section IV, pages 4-7 [Before Engine Starting] to 4-18 [Other Normal Procedures].
• Items in the checklist marked with an “*” should be omitted, as they will be covered in the next lesson.
C. Flight maneuvering will be completed in accordance with the King Air manual “Flight Maneuvering and Profiles” pages GEN-1 to GEN-18.
D. Instructor will assign PF/PNF as appropriate to the flight.
• Each crew member will complete the appropriate calls and procedures based on their respective responsibility (PF or PNF).
• The captain (PIC) will always have the final say concerning decisions within the cockpit.
E. Crew will shutdown the King Air by using the expanded procedures found in the back of the King Air manual, Section IV, page 4-17 [Shutdown and Securing] to 4-18 [Other Normal Procedures].
Debrief:
Instructor:
A. Evaluates crew members performance as Capt/FO and PF/PNF.
B. Reviews any incorrect procedures, calls, crew member responsibilities, and/or flow pattern procedures.
C. Review any difficulties with the complete phase of flight (startup, taxi, takeoff, maneuvering, and landing).
D. Review any difficulties with radio communications and basic VFR/IFR procedures.
E. Review any difficulties with airspeeds, power settings, flight profiles, or etc.
F. Reviews important topics discussed during the session

Completion Standards:
Crew members possess a good understanding of checklists, SOPs, and aircraft systems. They can work together as a crew and can both function as PF/PNF with little help from the instructor. The crew understands flow patterns, normal procedures, flight profiles and limitations, and other items appropriate to a safe flight in VFR/IFR conditions.

Lesson Objective:
Crew members will be introduced to limitations and basic emergency and abnormal procedures in the King Air FTD.
Preflight Discussion:
A. Instructor will review any questions from the previous lesson.
B. Instructor will go through and discuss this lesson and his/her goals.
C. Crew will review startup and shut down procedures from the previous lesson.
D. Crew will review SOPs and checklist usage
E. The large King Air checklist manuals will be used during this lesson.
F. Instructor will discuss limitations, emergency, and abnormal procedures as outlined in the King Air manual Section II “Limitations” pages 2-1 to 2-26; Section III “Emergency Procedures” pages 3-1 to 3-10; and Section IV “Abnormal Procedures” pages 3A-1 to 3A-12.
• Instructor should discuss which emergencies/abnormal procedures will be demonstrated during this lesson so that each crew member knows what his/her action and responsibility will be.

• Instructor should discuss what corrective action is expected and how the SOP’s and checklist should be used.
Flight Skills:
Crew should be able to startup the King Air FTD with little input from the instructor.
A. All appropriate SOPs, checklist items, crew coordination, and flow patterns will be used.
• Instructor will introduce abnormal/emergency procedures as discussed during the preflight discussion.
B. At instructors discretion, the crew will practice abnormal and emergency procedures in the KHUF area.
• All abnormal/emergencies procedures should be discussed prior to the crew members practicing of the procedure.
• Trainer should be “Frozen” at anytime so as to discuss proper SOP and Checklist usage and flight crew responsibility.
C. Crew should be able to shut down the King Air FTD with little input from the instructor.
A. All appropriate SOPs, checklist items, crew coordination, and flow patterns will be used.
