The template overleaf has the required format and instructions for one-page abstracts for inclusion in the Book of Abstracts which will be given to every participant on registration at the 125th Anniversary PIANC International Navigation Congress PIANC MMX.

ABSTRACT

1. OBJECTIVE

This template hasthe required format for Abstracts for inclusion in the Book of Abstracts which will be given to every participant on registration at the 125th Anniversary PIANC International Navigation Congress PIANC MMX. This document may be used as a template. Details for preparation of papers will be given in a separate document.

The mainobjective of the Book of Abstracts is to allow participants to select their preferred sessions / paper presentations from amongst the parallel presentations.

2. DETAILS OF FORMAT

Abstracts can only be submitted in digital format and shall be in final printable MS Word or PDF format. The Scientific Committee responsible for paper selection will not alter or edit abstracts submitted. The Book of Abstracts will be printed in colour, and it soit is the responsibility of authors to ensure that pictures or graphs are readable.

The format to be followed is the format used in this document and as given in Table 1:

Paper format: / A4 portrait / 297 x 210 mm / Single page / One-column
Page margins: / Top / bottom / right / left
2.5 cm / 2 cm / 2.5 cm / 2.5 cm

Table 1: Paper format for Abstracts

The title shall be in bold capitals, Arial font size 12, centred and no longer than 2 lines. Otherwise the font to be used throughout shall be Arial size 10. Authors’ names(in bold italics) shall be centred below the paper title, and can include title, designation and one affiliation. The email address of at least oneauthor should be givenat the bottom of the page as a footnote.

Section titles shall be in bold capitals and sections shall be numbered. Text shall be single linespaced, and there shall be paragraph spacing of 6pt before each paragraph and zero pt after (see MSWord format/paragraph/).No page number is required. Set page size to A4 (not US letter size).

3. CONTENT

Authors are free to include in the abstract any details of their proposed papers. Authors shall have the main objective of the Book of Abstracts in mind. The abstracts shall inform participants of the main subject, methodology and important results. Abstracts should be understood not only by those experts working in the same area, but also by other professionals who are not familiar with the details of the subject of the paper. Graphical presentations and picturesare recommended to provide a clear overview including location, results and conclusions. If several Tables or Figures used they shall be numbered and a reference shall be given in the text.

References to other publications, papers etc. are not required in these abstracts and shall be only used if required to avoid misinterpretation.

4. CONCLUSION

It isnot always clear, at the end of a brilliant abstract, what the authors intend to present in the paper. Authors are advised to include at the end of their abstract, a very shortsummary of what they will include in their full paper and what would be discussed in the oral paper presentation.
